Graduation 1959
by grandmaR
Traditionally, as the last group of diplomas is presented, the graduates sing "Navy Blue and Gold", the Oath of Office is administered and the National Anthem is played. The senior person of the new First (senior) Class leads three cheers for "those who are about to leave us", and the graduates, led by the class president, respond with three cheers "for those we leave behind us." On the last "hooray" of this cheer, the graduates toss their Midshipman caps into the air. This photo was taken inside the Field House, and I'm not sure if this building still exists.
Columbus Day Boat Show
by grandmaR
Each year since we bought our boat, we make a Columbus Day weekend pilgrimage to Annapolis for the The United States Sailboat Show which is the world's largest show featuring exclusively new sailboats – all new and all sail. The following weekend is the United States Powerboat Show which is devoted to powerboats, all new and all power.
When we go, we are not interested in the many new sailboats that are displayed on an enormous floating dock system that extends way out into the harbor (photos 4 and 5). No - we go to look at the various vendor's displays in the many tents and booths (photo 2 and 3) - checking out prices and new products. Our friends with boats often come to the show for a similar purpose. Sometimes we can meet with them for dinner, or go aboard to admire their boats.
The Annapolis and Baltimore Rail Trail
by marca
We rode from downtown Annapolis to the Southern Trail head and then to the BWI Airport observation area. (approx 20 miles one way). If you begin at the parking area, the airport is approx 16 miles north. This trail is Most Excellent! The trail is well maintained, grass along the sides of the trail is mowed, street crossings are well marked, and food/water is available in towns. There are flower beds along the trail which are maintained by local residents (see photo 2). The trail is paved for the entire length. Any bike will do. We saw a few folks using roller blades
Great casual Mexican (and the chef is vegan!)
by feline01 about Mexican Cafe
This restaurant was recommended by the receptionist at the car dealership. She was a vegetarian and informed us the vegan selections in Annapolis were slim but this restaurant had great food and a vegan chef so we decided to try it even though my husband claims to not like Mexican food. The food was fantastic and the waitress extremely helpful. Even my husband had to admit that he really enjoyed his meal and it filled him up for the four hour drive back to NJ (all done during torrential rain). The tamales were delicious and the rice and beans were perfectly spiced. Chris loved his garlic spinach which wasn't on the menu but the waitress arranged it.
I like the pub called...

I like the pub called Armadilos. It is low-key downstairs, has bands upstairs and has great food.
The graffiti in the bathroom calls the morality of the Navel acadamy cadets into serious question.
The commandant should be sacked for letting this continue. The pickled pigs feet are great.
