looking for a hotel in downtown Baltimore

by garcom01

Hi, I'm going to Balt. Aug 1-3 for a baseball game. I'm looking for someplace reasonable to stay near the downtown attractions. A B&B or a hotel is fine. Thanks--also, any ideas on what to do during my stay? Garrett

There is a Marriott right across the street from Camden Yards and a brand new Hilton directly across from the Marriott (both on Pratt St). Lower price option is the Holiday Inn about 2 blocks away on Lombard St but it is not as nice.

Travel Tips for Baltimore

Fall for Fells Point

by yoshamus

Fells Point is one of the most lively neighborhoods in Baltimore. Located near the inner harbor, it was a seedy waterfront area that has been revived by an influx of funky artists, yuppies, and tourists. Its many bars, restaurants, and pubs come alive on weekend nights. Try the Full Moon Saloon or Cats Eye Pub for good local bands (mostly blues or rock); Bertha's for seafood; the Blue Moon Cafe, Jimmy's or Theresa's Deli for breakfast; Soundgarden for CDs; and the Wharf Rat for a wide variety of beers. The Fells Point festival every fall is one of the largest outdoor festivals on the east coast. The streets are full of music, fragrant food booths, arts and crafts venders, and a surging good-natured crowd.

Take a Walk in Canton

by littlesam1

Canton is one of the area's in Baltimore that have been recently renovated and tourist friendly. There are sidewalks and trails along the water front and through the marina's. You will find many restaurants and some great photo oppotunites along this portion of the harbor. Not as crowded as The Inner Harbor area, Canton is fast becoming more or a tourist attraction almost daily.

This is a fun picture taken along the water front in Canton with some whimsical street art.

Baltimore Crazy LawsIt's...

Baltimore Crazy Laws
It's illegal to throw bales of hay from a second-story window within the city limits.
It's illegal to take a lion to the movies.
It is a park rule violation to be in a public park with a sleeveless shirt. $10 fine. This would include joggers that go shirtless. (1898)
No person who is a 'tramp' or 'vagrant' shall loiter in any park at any time. They define tramp as a person who roves for begging purposes and a vagrant as an idle person who is able-bodied living without labor. It's a $50 fine. I guess the tramp would have to beg for the money to pay the fine. -Park Rule 6
It is a violation of city code to sell chicks or ducklings to a minor within 1 week of the Easter holiday.

BLOB' S PARK IN JESSUP MD

Get-together with Clarence, Ethel, Frank and Zana
Blob's Park
8024 Rt. 175 at Baltimore/Washington Parkway
This place has been around forever. It is family-owned ( Max Blob ). The Hall is plain and set up to feed many people and there is dancing available Sunday afternoons. They do charge a small cover charge of $5.00 to help pay for the two-man band. There wasn't a lot of people there when we went. Mostly us and a small party celebrating a birthday. It was just nice to spend some quiet time with Clarence & Ethel and Frank and even Zana managed to get here for a visit. We all had a bite to eat and Hansi and I did a little dancing.
