Little Italy and Aquarium

by luvitalia

Are there any restaurants in little italy that are authentic or are they American-Italian inspired? I don't mind either but would like to take my 12 yr. old neice to more modern type restaurant. Also how much time would you allow for the Aquarium? Thanks so much in advance Kitten

The time it will take to see the Aquarium depends on the time of the visit (crowded or not) and on what shows you want to see. I'd allow a couple of hours at the minimum.

As for restaurants - it's been a long time since I went to Little Italy to eat, but La Scala Ristorante has some awards as the Best Italian in Baltimore. Other possibilities in that area are Aldos, Amicci's, Da Mimmo, Dalesios and Sabatinos. Pazza Luna is possibly more contemporary.

Thanks Rosalie, I was thinking 2 hours but you never know what will enchant a child!! Restaurants I am still undecided but you have given me great research. I still would love personal opinion;>)))on restaurants.Kitten

IME aquariums are of interest to almost any child although 12 is a young teen rather than a child. Young children are just interesting in animals that move regardless. By the time they get to be teens, they have Opinions.

Research the shows (IMAX or whatever, dolphin shows, feeding times etc). You might also ask what 'green' subjects she is studying. Does she know anything about rain forests? coral reefs?

There is also a restaurant at the aquarium.

The science museum isn't far from the harbor - you might think about that too if she is interested in that kind of thing.

Travel Tips for Baltimore

Visitor's Center

by Hopkid

Baltimore has a pretty fancy visitors center located at the Inner Harbor. It's a mostly glass structure which lets in a lot of light and provides a festive atmosphere. There are racks of brochures and guides to just about every activity one can image from shopping, museum going, sporting events, live music, and performance arts. The friendly staff are very willing to help and answer any questions a visitor may have. This is a perfect place to start your visit to this fascinating city.

The visitors center is located at 401 Light Street. You can give them a call at 877-BALTIMORE and/or visit them on the web at www.baltimore.org/visitors/v_vc.html

Hours are 9am-6pm daily.

Fells Point

by dlandt

Fells Point is kind of Baltimore's answer to Fisherman's Wharf. Its lined with bars and cute shops, different restaurants, street musicians and the like. Unlike Inner Harbor, it really doesn't have that much in the way of actual tourist attractiuons, but it is a place you can have a good time. Good food good drinks, good fun

Please do not deliver the Examiner....

"Please do not deliver the Examiner to this house"

I had a good chuckle when I saw these signs on several adjacent rowhouses in the Federal Hill district, it appears that the Examiner is a free tabloid that is delivered to your home whether you ask for it or not. Not sure if these homeowners are making a political statement or an environmental statement or if they are employees of a rival newspaper....

Packing List

by bethb_hon

any sort will do! Baltimore is in the US mid-Atlantic. Summers can be as hot and humid as Bangkok and winters as cold as Canada. Most of the time its pretty seasonal and spring and autumn are just lovely! Pack clothes for comfort. Check any newspaper's weather page before coming. Baltimore's weather will be the same as Washington,DC. Everything will be available here. Pharmacy chains will be CVS, Walgreens, or Rite Aid.

Preakness

by frankcanfly

Pimlico Horse Park is the second of the annual triple crown Horse racing series.... Usually held in May, the track is about 15 minutes north of downtown, the neighborhood is questionable......

It looks like you'll be able to use Slot Machines here sometime soon.....
