~ Bethesda, Maryland ~
Back when I was thirteen my family took a trip to Washington, D.C. While visiting, we spent some time exploring the attractive suburban city of Bethesda. While not a large city, Bethesda buzzes with big city activity, even boasting a central business district with its own skyscrapers. Surrounding the business district, Bethesda boasts quiet tree canopied neighborhoods.
My father and grandparents lived in Bethesda back in the 1950s, so we were actually on a search for landmarks of significance to them. We found the house where my father lived when he was a kid, and the elementary school where he performed the Mexican hat dance. Way back before my father was born though, my grandfather was also stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital, where he oversaw the development and production of navigational devices for the Navy instead of being sent to the front lines of World War II. Needless to say, Bethesda has been an important city in my family’s history.
Bethesda is part of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area.
