Hillary [of] Clinton
"Clinton, MD Top 5:"
Now, Clinton is by no means a tourist destination--there's not alot to offer. If, in your travels, you find yourself stationed here it probably means that you are in the military and that you've picked up a stint on Andrews Air Force Base (home of Air Force One). For several years, I worked at the front desk of Clinton's premier hotel: The Colony South Hotel & Conference Center. We caught the Base's billeting overflow on a daily basis--flight crews, Navy personnel & when the Air Show was in town The Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, Golden Knights and even the Canadian flight team, The Snowbirds were our guests. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked, in desperation: "What is there to DO around here?" I turned many in the direction of Waldorf, MD a neighboring city with a plethora of food and strip malls; or Old Town Alexandria, VA just a hop over the Woodrow Wilson bridge with some fine dining & fun shopping. But, as a Clinton-girl, born and raised, I've got to give local business, history & recreation a toot where a toot is due...
Clinton Top 5 (in no particular order):
1. Cosca Regional Park & Clearwater Nature Center: www.pgparks.com/places/parks/cosca.html
Why? Beautiful Park with man made marshlands and a lake with paddle boats. Great hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. The nature center has some wonderful exhibits, special events and a bunch of local wildlife and birds of prey to view.
2. Colony South Hotel & Conference Center (The Decoy Lounge): www.colonysouth.com
Why? Because the other bars in Clinton are dirty and gross. The Decoy has karaoke on Wednesday nights and cheap Fajitas on Fridays. Live bands on the weekend. Also check out the fitness center & spa for massage therapy & body wraps.
3. Mary Surratt House: www.pgparks.com/places/eleganthistoric/surratt_intro.html
Why? A little history. She was the first woman hanged for her involvement with the Abraham Lincoln assassination.
4. Miller Farms: 301.297.9370
Why? Fresh local produce & home made jams and jellies. A TON of old fashioned wholesale candies. AWESOME bakery with doughnuts, pies, fudge & soft serve ice cream (made with local fruit). Also, I'm neighbors with the family that owns the business and they're good folks!
5.) Texas Ribs & BBQ: www.texasribsandbbq.com
Why? Best local restaurant hands down. Carolina pulled pork sandwich with colseslaw and a sweet tea. The food is fantastic, the service is great and, on a side-note, I once won $600 playing Keno there!
