Slept 7, full kitchen, fridge, stove, pots and pans, glasses, plates everything. Even had dish soap and towels. The view was priceless! We listened to the ocean at night while going to sleep. You wake up to the smell of bacon cooking at Phillips Restaurant. The rocking chairs on the front porch are heavenly!

    Quality Inn: Baltimore, MD

From 6-8 June 1994, my boss and the entire staff were here on business for 3 days preparing to auction off a store in a building that was about to be demolished. The hotel itself was a standard national chain with nothing positive or negative standing out. At the end of each day, the hotel, no matter how nondescript, was a welcome sight.

Its location was about the only thing that made it stand out. There is a Pargo's Restaurant on sight, so we knew where to go for supper the first night there. Also, Security Mall is within spitting distance.

  • Susse Chalet - Maryland
    Susse Chalet
    by b1bob
I had never heard of Susse Chalet before the January, 1994 business trip. Nevertheless, it was cold and ice was coming down the night before the next day's liquidation. We weren't sure if the weather would let us carry on with it, thinking we would be just slip sliding away. Any hotel with a working heating unit would have done for that night. It was a much nicer hotel than what we usually get on these trips.

    Motel 6: Linthicum Heights

On 16-17 November 1999, we were liquidating a grocery store in neighbouring Brooklyn Park just across the Patapsco River. The hotel room was small and cozy, just the way I like it. However, there were two problems. First, the climate control unit was stuck on roast. Second, they must have applied cleaning fluid to the room with a shovel. This is not to disparage the whole chain, but when you are in Southern Baltimore and surrounds, pass this one by.

The only thing that stands out is its proximinity to the Baltimore Washington International Airport.

The Jacob Rohrbach Inn makes a perfect base from which to venture out to the battlefields of Antietam, South Mountain and beyond. The house dates back to before the Civil War. The Rohrbachs owned a farm just east of what is today the Burnside Bridge - it was then known as the Rohrbach Bridge. Following the battle, the Rorhbachs bought this home in town to retire from farming. Eventually, the house came into the expert hands of Joanne and Paul Breitenbach who have converted this beautiful home into a first class bed and breakfast. The bedrooms are very comfortable - some with nice decks. Outside, you can sit or stroll through parklike gardens. Mountain bikes are available to rent and the C&O Towpath close at hand. Possible rides could include Harpers Ferry or out over the Antietam battlefield. A great place to trim your sails and gain a 19th Century perspective while enjoying 21st Century comfort.

You won't see this unless you are a visitor but it is something we had commissioned as a wedding gift to ourselves. There may be other painted walls in Annapolis, but this is in our backyard! The garden is long - 200+ft and narrow - about 25ft across so this is at the far end from the house.

Annapolis is a very historic town. Many of the buildings were built in the 1700's.

Try the Gov. Calvert House on State Circle. It is a modern hotel built on the back of a historic inn.

Another interesting historic inn is the Maryland Inn on Church Circle. There are many others (Historic Inns of Annapolis) plus many bed and breakfasts in the downtown area. There is also a Mariott Hotel on the water at the city dock, and many other chain hotels out near the Mall.

  • $60-90/nite

I love this hotel and stay there whenever I go back to visit (if I don't stay with friends of course). The rooms come standard with a living room, full-size kitchen (with minimal dishes and utensils), a washer and dryer and seperate bedroom and a balcony. It literally is comparable to having a one bedroom apartment--you can get rooms with a second bedroom as well. It is great for stays that last a few days--the laundry thing really comes in handy! And they have the best breakfast buffet....
