Travel Tips for Lexington Park

Good Blog and Photos about the PAX River area

by ministratordad

See http://www.paxriveronline.com/articles - lots of good pics, info and vignettes about life in the PAX River area, Southern Maryland and St. Mary's county. Catching fat jimmies (crabs) in the creek, and experimenting with the crab cakes!

"Full Speed on the Chesapeake"

This display has pictures of prototype Surface Effect Ships. According to the information on the card:

"In 1970 and 71, the Navy tested several 2000 ton Surface Effect Ship prototypes. They could travel effectively at about 120 mph. There is a story mooted that one of the ships actually made a run of close to 200 mph.

"These ships were propelled forward on a cushion of air by twin jet engines.

"These prototypes eventually became the Surface Effect Landing Craft that the Marines used in Desert Storm."

These were small planes meant to carry one person over the lines to spot for artillary. Unfortunately they were so sensative that if you had to scratch your nose, or pee, or took your hand off the controls the device would crash.

Bob is in the back looking at pictures. This is the model of the lighthouse which used to be off Cedar Point at the Patuxent / Chesapeake point of the base. The lighthouse eventually fell down after it was abandonned and the cupola used to be in this museum. When the museum was moved so that Route 235 (Three Notch Road) could be widened, it went to another museum.

Food from Lexington Park

"Cerro Grande"

House special - Shrimp Quesadilla $8.25 - Cheese quesadilla filled with cheese and shrimp. Served with fresh lettuce, guacamole and pico de gallo.

"Cerro Grande"

I usually have fried ice cream for dessert at a Mexican restaurant. But they were out of it. They gave me a choice of flan, cheescake, fried Mexican bananas or Sopapillas. I took the Sopapillas which were $2.50 and were crispy flat flour tortillas covered with honey and chocolate and sprinkled with cinnamon. They were very good.

"Cerro Grande"

Two beef tacos, rice and refried beans - normally $6.95, but on special for $5.95.

"Cerro Grande"

One chalupa, one chile relieno and one enchilada $7.25

"Damon's"

Skillet dinner so I can eat and play Trivia both

"Captain Pat's"
