Needs Some Touch Ups

by TripAdvisor Member lilidef

This is the fourth time we've stayed at the Holiday Inn Ocean City and we probably won't be back unless there are some upgrades made. The hotel is definitely showing wear and tear. The hallways need to be re-carpeted and are in need of fresh paint. They were also very dark and dank. There were also broken windows in the hallways. The rooms were clean but shabby. There were ceramic tiles missing from the shower and mildew growing. On a good note, the front desk was helpful and the check-in process was very smooth.

Wonderful hotel!

Just returned from Cruizin' OC and stayed at the Holiday Inn for three nights. I used my reward points so I can't comment on the rate but this hotel is great! All rooms are suites with oversized rooms. We had lots of room and weren't tripping over one another. It has 210 rooms with 4 guest elevators. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Their restauran,t the Coral Reef, had a great breakfast menu at a good price.
Unfortunately, they only had a Southern View room but if we went out on the balcony we did have an ocean view as well as a street view for all of the cars cruising the streets.
The rooms were very clean and appears to have had new carpeting installed.
The only downside was that the bathroom had a "rainshower" nozzle and didn't have a regular shower stall and only a jacuzzi bathtub (that didn't work) but no big deal because the rest of the suite made up for it. The rooms were very quiet and could barely hear our neighbors.
Would definitely return to this hotel!

Loved it!!!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for 1 night, June 7th, it was my son's 15th birthday. I reserved the Garden View room, which was the least expensive, but was upgraded to the Ocean Front room on the 6th floor. The view was gorgeous! The ocean was so close! We slept with the sliding door to the balcony open all night, we fell asleep to the crashing of the waves against the beach. My son and I watched the sun come up in the morning. The room was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were very nice. They had a huge basket of fresh fruit on the desk in the morning or you could eat at their restaurant off the lobby. My husband loved the hotel and my son will remember celebrating his birthday there with fond memories. We would definitely go back if I could get the great rate I received this time.

Not as glorious as these reviews would lead you to believe....

by TripAdvisor Member JMSC-92

...however, definitely one of the better hotels in Ocean City. All of the staff members were amazing and went above and beyond....even the casual college-aged individuals spoken about in other reviews. They were always smiling and helpful. The balloon lady in the lobby was just a sweetheart and the kids loved her. The hotel is located in what I believe is one of the best locations in Ocean City, and just about everything you need is in walking distance.

The room, however, was very disappointing. For the price we paid, it was way too small. For some reason I was under the impression that it was going to be a suite, but it was actually a standard hotel room with a kitchenette and dinette "squeezed in." The establishment is a bit outdated and is showing signs of age, however, they were in the middle of renovating so I'm sure that will change soon.

This is probably the best there is on the oceanfront (besides the new Hilton, of course), but we are going to opt for a bayfront room next time in the hopes that we could get a better room at a more reasonable price.

Will nevewr go back

We stayed at this hotel and were very dissapointed. The room was small and very dirty. Our infant sons knees and feet and our feet turned black from the carpet in the room. The microwave was worn out and rusted on the inside. Some of the staff was very helpful but we found others to be rude and discourteous. For the price paid I would at least expect a clean room

overpriced hotel/rooms very damp

by TripAdvisor Member calligraphy

This hotel is kind of noisy, the rooms are very damp for some reason and only average size, the bathroom could have been cleaner. The outdoor pool was nice but crowded even on a weekday, the indoor pool is nothing special in a room with no windows. The employees we encountered were efficient and of course very busy as this is a large hotel. The price per night is quite high, the beach is nice (but lots of jellyfish). We ordered breakfast from room service from the Reflections restaurant which was decent.
The balcony was also nice. We were on the 3rd floor, room had 2 double beds, small pull out sofa, small kitchenette with microwave; sink; small oven; dishwasher; refrigerator and some dishes which were clean enough. The noise from the refrigerator was annoying as it was too close to the bed area. The bathroom and kitchenette had drop ceilings; the bathroom fixtures were fine but housekeeping needs to do a better job cleaning the bathroom walls. Be careful of the doorway of balcony as it is raised and you can easily trip on it. Overall it was ok, I think it would be better if they removed the tennis court and just enlarged the pool area to accomodate all the guests-or even put in a waterslide area.

Nice hotel

by TripAdvisor Member rklarer99

Nice hotel and it's away from the noisier boardwalk area. The check-in was fast, friendly and efficient. Same thing with the check-out. The room was quite nice, although, it was VERY cramped by the doorway due to the small kitchen table they had put in there. You also have to be in that area to use their high-speed internet which is a real pain. They should be wireless like most other hotels so that you can be on the couch or out on the balcony.

Although the room was not right on the oceanfront, it was a very nice view overlooking the pool and tennis courts with the ocean a little further in the back ground. It was a short stroll to the beach and was much less crowded than the boardwalk area. The pool area was great and the swim-up bar was awesome! A really neat layout!

We ordered the Best 4-Breakfast through room service. It was great to eat out on the balcony and the price of the meal was SO cheap!!! I would not have expected that at this level of hotel but it was very much appreciated! The service was very friendly and efficient, once again.

Although this hotel is not cheap, you get what you pay for. The overall level of service through all the people we dealt with was great, the room was large and had a great view and there were many amenities that helped to make it an enjoyable stay.

Good work!

disappointed

My family and I, which included 3 small children stayed at this hotel in the first week in august 2006. For the most part, the hotel was very clean and the people were very friendly. We did however encounter a problem during our stay. After about two days there, we began to notice that there were "horse flies" that began to bite us. At first it was an annoyance, but then it became a nightmare! At one point during our stay, we couldn't even stay by the outdoor pool. For two days during our stay, we had to leave the hotel because of this, to find something else to do. One day during the trip we had no choice but to spend a perfectly sunny day in the indoor pool. One of the children that was with us does not like the sand, so the outdoor pool is something he really enjoyed. I understand that these flies are a result of mother nature and in certain cases cannot be prevented. I am very dissappointed in the way the hotel employees and the general manager handled this siutation. They told me that the flies by the pool were not their respondsibility. It was something that the pool bar employees had to take care of. We repeatedly asked them to spray the area, but the only place they would spray the bug spray was the area around the bar and nowhere else. The pool was not the only area that was affected by these flies. At one point during our stay I had to kill between 10 to 12 flies at one time. When I inquired If they sprayed the outside areas of our room (the hallway and balcony) like we had requested, they said they didn't know and no one followed up on our request. There is a notice in all the rooms that says they would try to correct any problems that arise during the customer's stay, or that portion of the stay at the hotel would be free. We were not looking for a free stay, but only some help in trying to resolve this problem. They denied us any kind of compensation and they were rude in their response to our complaints. The general manager of the holiday inn said he didn't think we deserved any form of compensation. When we return to Ocean City next year we will not be returning to this hotel. It is a shame, because this hotel has alot to offer families.

Another Great Visit

This hotel is a great Ocean City Hotel. The service is always top notch with a staff that really seems to care about your stay. We stayed in an eastern oceanfront room which is our favorite choice. You can overlook the tennis court and outdoor pool, with a perfect oceanfront view. The rooms have everything you need. a little kitchen great for breakfast and lunch. Our room had two double beds and a pullout sofa bed. Some of the reviews say the hotel is old or run down, which is not true. The hotel was built in the 80's but every year does stuff to update and keep up with the times. If you want the plush modern hotels fork out the $450 per night and stay at the Hilton or Holiday Inn Suites, If you want a clean acceptable room and just nice people helping you, stay here.

Wonderful experience

by TripAdvisor Member jakzak

To be honest I was a little surprised at the quality and value at the Holiday Inn. We are a family of 4, 2 adults, Daughter 15 and Son 10. We arrived at the Holiday Inn on Saturday August 12 for a 4 night stay. We arrived at the hotel at 11:30am and were help by Bryan, who is the hotels consierge. Bryan advised us our room was not ready, but offered to hold our luggage and gave us a place to change. He also took our cell phine number and said he would call us when the room was ready. At 1:00 the phone rang and we went up to our room. We had a southside facing room on the 5th floor that overlooked the beach and the pool. The room was large and featured a full sized fridge, stove, dishwasher and microwave. It was a little tight with the small table in front of the appliances but it all worked out great. The hotel offers free internet connections so it you have a laptop bring it. The hotels features Kids eat free, and that includes the hotel restaurants and also the poolside grill, the location on 66th street was great as we were onlya 10 minute drive to the boardwalk attractions and far enough away to be tropical. The best feature of the hotel is the swim-up bar. Very nice.
I might have given the hotel a slightly higher rating but after our 4 nights in Ocean City we then stayed 3 nights at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, MD. For as nice as the Holiday Inn is it does not compare to Hyatt.
Our next trip to Ocean City will again be at the Holiday Inn...

places to stay downtown

by kishka

I am having difficulty finding apartments for rent in the downtown area near the boardwalk. Does anyone know if there is a central list of places to rent weekly? all the real estate companies we have contacted only have brand new condo's or places in mid or north Ocean City. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive place to rent for 6 people?

I'm not sure if this answers your questions, but we always stay at the Sands, in Fenwick Island, just north of OC. They have weekly apartments, is ocean side (but not ocean front) and allow dogs. However, the draw of the place is that it is not OC. . . Fenwick, South Bethany, and Bethany are called the "Quiet Resorts." However, you can always make the short drive if you want the bright lights and boardwalk of OC.
