COMPARING

by DROMAN

I have vacationed in the Wildwoods and I am not too happy with the direction the island is going....hotel rooms turned into condos, vacation cottages torn down for townhomes...etc.
I have not been to Ocean City, MD but I am interested in vacationing there if it is like OLD wildwood.
Could someone please fill me in on the area?
Thank you

OC is as bad as Wildwood if not worse. The contrast between Ocean City, where high-rise apartments and condos are crammed into almost every inch of beachfront space, and Fenwick Island (DE)--just over the state line, but with much better building/development regulations--is very stark.

Why not try Sea Isle City? That is a lot more low-key.

Julie knows her beaches.

OC is not nice...it's like a cheap Las Vegas on the Ocean. We used to stay in Fenwick all the time. You may also want to head a bit north to Bethany or Rehoboth. We're now into staying near Cape Henelopen....but, I don't think it's what you're looking for!

I saw this post and it reminded me of when we use to go to OC...been many years. It seems that every where on the coast things are building up..we've also been to the islands off of virginia ....about 5 years ago...they were low key then..sorta laid back and relaxed....the beaches were not crowded...not sure about now...so maybe you will check that out...I'm not sure what you are looking for...

About 70 miles south of OC is Chincoteague Virginia...It has been our vacation spot for many years and we have watched it change over the years also..But it still has a quaintness about it...We usually get our "boardwalk" fill by going to OC for a day, usually topped with 'Threashers Boardwalk Fries' but if its a laid back vacation with ocean, bay waters, seafood, wild ponies, and a taste for mother nature ,check it out..

Chincoteague is still very laid back. About an hour from O.C. and 1 1/2 Hours from Rehobath. If you want a rental directly on the Ocean then you will want to stay up in Md, or DE. Chincoteague has no building on the ocean. We do have lovely little motels and B&Bs though.

My family and I have been coming to Ocean City , Oh I say about 4 years now. I always stay up town. Just because it's more laid back. Down town hotels always have either the "old" boardwalk hotel's or the "teenagers" hotels! I am always staying at the Serene Hotel and Suties, it's on about 120th street. And it a great location. I have the bus stop in front of the hotel so I am able to get right on. The beach is about half a block from the hotel. They always have very clean rooms, friendly front desk staff and they allow pets for us pet lover's who cant stand leaving there pets at home. If you were to come to Ocean City I would stay up town and try to check out the Serene Hotel.

Travel Tips for Ocean City

Jet Ski here, competition holds down prices!

by tpangelinan

Check out the local Ocean City Magazine at every store and restaurant, they always have coupons for jet ski time in them. It is such a big thing here, the local jet ski places sell old equipment every year and buy new, so your machine is always brand new and cutting edge in this town.

"Great Times are Here!"

Single? Grab a friend and go hit the clubs, the beach the boardwalk.
Couple? Romantic packages abound, quiet resturants, bike together, swim, hot tub, jet ski it is endless.
Family? Your kids will never want to let you go any place else. Rides, shops, board walk with tram, bike rentals, arcades, shop till you drop baby!

"Teen agers love it too!"

Ocean City was voted 'An All-American City' Award in 2001. Even though they have achieved this coveted award, there are lots of "Under 21 Clubs", so watch the kids. Renting bikes and parking the car is the way to go. If you like condos, this is your town. Motels and Hotels abound also. If you like beach houses, you have to head north. Not much in big beach houses here. Board walk, and Rides. Beach, Fishing, Ocean and Bay. Some of the best seafood you will ever eat. We live 2 hours away and go four or five times a year.

"View up the beach in Ocean City MD"

If you are used to crystal clear water, better go to the caribbean. You can almost never see your feet in this water, but if you are hardy, it is very refreshing.
