We were on a budget, and decided this would be a good no-frills place to stay. Unfortunately, it wasn't all that great. The lobby was dark and depressing. The motel had a pool, so we brought our swimsuits (this was late spring); but to our dismay, it was half-drained, and full of leaves (a very small pool as it was anyway!). No swimming. Our room was fairly clean, but the sheets were wrinkled, the room had a stale smell to it, and the bathroom wasn't the best. The plug in the drain was broken, and the water temperature was at best tepid. The motel has no real security or locks (the hallway entrance door to the second floor bank of rooms was ajar the entire time we were there). Not a place we'd choose again next time we're in DC.
Unique Quality: The main reason why we picked it, and probably the best thing about this place is that it's in Silver Spring, and approximately a six-block walk to the Silver Spring Metro stop. Additionally, it's just four blocks from a shopping center that has a Giant food store, a CVS drugstore, a couple of restaurants, and the like. Also, downtown Silver Spring has been renovated and vastly improved over the last few years. The AFI movie theater is nearby, as are some restaurants. A post office, library, and a small downtown business district are within walking/driving distance of not more than 10-20 minutes. If you don't mind a rather run-down property with a so-so room, these external amenities will make up for your sleeping quarters.
