As the name says, this hotel is located in the middle of the UMASS campus, and it's an easy choice for prospective students and their families. Occasionally used as a classroom for students in Hospitality and Tourism Management program, this hotel offers spacious rooms in a quite charming location. Don't be scared of the lack of experience of people who serve you: I simply had nothing to complain about it when I first came to Amherst.
There are no serious restaurants on campus, although there are quite a few cafeterias. Still, the campus is on a buss route (which is free for students), that takes you straight to downtown Amherst.
Don't forget to ask for the student discount, if somebody in your party is/will be enrolled at UMASS. The savings are substantial!
