Our bed by Gypsystravels This is a fantastic hotel, just miles from downtown Boston. It is an inexpensive hotel for those looking for more in a hotel at the least possible rate. The room is a suite and as a Hilton Honors member we usually get the upgrade to an 8th floor corner room. The hotel itself is quite nice with a large lobby and reception area. On my last visit here the lobby was packed with people for some sort of celebration taking place here at the hotel. The beds are quite nice and comfy with a basic decor. One of the best things about the hotel is that it is quite inexpensive compared to some of the other area hotels. We usually pay around $99+ tax, parking is included which is an added benefit.
As a Hiton Honers Gold or Diamond member there is a complimentary Sunday breakfast buffet which you must remind them at check-in so they can give you the vouchers. With a huge selection of breakfast items, you really can't go wrong. I usually order an egg white omelet with plenty of coffee, juice and fruit. It really is a great bargain in the Boston area and only about 2 miles from the city center.

 | Fairmont Copley Plaza: An Albanian Historic Landmark

by nomorewars While under the auspices of the Ottoman Empire, the Pan-Albanian Federation of America, or Vatra (the Hearth), was formed in Boston, becoming one of the most influential voices in the movement for Albanian independence. It was led by Fan S. Noli & Faik Konitza, the greatest figure of Albanian culture in the early decades of the twentieth century. Its newspaper, the Dielli, became Vatra’s main organ for fostering Albanian nationalism & is still in existence today.
On November 28, 1912, Albania was liberated from Ottoman control after Turkey was defeated by the Balkan Allies during the First Balkan War. However, at the onset of World War I, Albania was overrun by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. While under occupation, the Albanian Federation of America, Vatra, met at the Copley Plaza Hotel, located at 138 Saint James Avenue, & served as the defacto government in exile of Albania. | THE LIBERTY HOTEL: How Ironic!
| |

|
 |
Prior to being remodeled into a luxury hotel in 2001, the Liberty Hotel operated as the Charles Street Jail, a notoriously substandard facility that was shutdown in 1973 for being in violation of its inmates’ constitutional rights. During its history, the jail housed a number of famous inmates including James Michael Curley (former mayor & congressman), Malcolm X, Sacco & Vanzetti, suffragists imprisoned for protests during President Woodrow Wilson’s visit to Boston in 1919, & World War II prisoners from the German submarine Unterseeboot 234. After the closing of the jail, the property was bought by the Massachusetts General Hospital. Massachusetts General Hospital leased the property to MTM Luxury Lodging with the requirement that significant elements of the building be preserved. MTM Luxury Lodging has abided by this stipulation, retaining much of the historic structure during renovations-most notably the famed 90-foot rotunda.
The building has been placed on both the state & national Register of Historic Places. And as such, the hotel provides a detailed tour of the building (to include the history of former inmates of the Charles Street Jail). If interested, inquire at the concierge desk. | Boston Omni Parker House Hotel: I Can't Believe They Worked & Stayed Here!

I’ve never actually stayed here so I can’t honestly give an opinion on the quality of the hotel; however, I have heard it is a fantastic (but expensive) place to stay. My purpose in writing this tip was not to mention the quality of the hotel, but rather to inform all of you of the facility’s former guests & employees. Having opened for business in 1855, the Parker House (currently functioning as the Omni Parker House) is the longest continuously operating hotel in the United States. It was here that the Boston Cream Pie, the Massachusetts State dessert, & the Parker House roll were invented by a French chef.
Due to its long history, the Parker House has long been a rendezvous point for politicians, literary dignitaries, as well as other famous people. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Russell Lowell, & Ralph Waldo Emerson visited the hotel frequently, while JFK announced his candidacy for Congress in the hotel’s Press Room, proposed to Jackie Kennedy, & even held his bachelor party here. Furthermore, Ho Chi Minh, a Vietnamese revolutionary & former leader of the North Vietnam forces during the Vietnam War, was both a baker & busboy for the hotel. Malcolm Little (Malcolm X) worked here as well as a waiter. Moreover, the famed English author, Charles Dickens, stayed here during his visit to the U.S. in 1867. While lodging here, Charles Dickens rendered the first stateside reading of A Christmas Carol before a large crowd of people. Apparently, the passage on Tiny Tim's death caused a tremendous amount of sadness.
