Worst Experience Ever

I originally booked my stay for 4 days but only stayed one night because my friends and family that were in town were all at the W Hotel (which is fabulous). They reserved $2600 for the four nights and I checked out at $600. The front desk lady told me to call American Express to let them know of the change, which I did. They told me to have the hotel contact them to tell them the total so they can release the other holds. Sounds simple enough, so I relayed the message and they told me they would take care of it and not to worry.
I called to follow up the issue and turns out that no one ever called American Express. I called the Boston Harbor Hotel and asked them to call. Not only did they call this time, but charged me an extra $600. Really? So I called American Express and they told me that the hotel did NOT take the charges off, but yet charged a second time. I call the hotel AGAIN and spoke to the same person I spoke with before. He did not listen and tried to cut me off when I explained the situation, which is VERY frustrating especially when HE is the one who messed up. So he says, "I'll fix it first thing in the morning"...
Guess what?
American Express told me that he tried to charge $649.90 AGAIN!!!!???
What the %$#*& is wrong with them??
So know my available credit is $3800 less because of all their unecessary charges. I am still planning on traveling for the next 4 days in a different city so I need all of my available credit just in case. I cannot afford to wait 7-10 business days for them to get their heads out of their butts to finally solve the problem they created for me.
So I speak to another person who is obviously getting annoyed with me when I explain the situation...which I'm sure you can understand how I felt. So I had to give him specific instructions to call them, what to say, then to call me back because I obviously cannot trust that they will do this on their own. So he calls me back and said that they reversed the other charges but gave me a total of $649.00 which is incorrect. Then after looking through he said that they only submitted a charge for $600.
Whew. I know if you're still reading you must be SO confused, and I understand how it can be confusing but they handled the situation terribly. The manager barely apologized and when I got off the phone, I realized that they are not gracious to their guests. I spent 3 days out of my vacation making numerous phone calls and taking to poorly trained individuals who made the situation worse. COMPLETELY frustrating.
Save yourself some frustration and stay somewhere else. It's not really THAT nice of a hotel...I would describe it as "Grandma Fancy"...I was not impressed.
If you do insist on staying at the Boston Harbor Hotel, you better hope and pray that you don't need tthem to solve any issues...

Unique Quality: They gave me free breakfast, which was awesome but dd not make up for all the frustration.

Well I'll bet the rooms are gorgeous too!

The Boston Harbor Hotel is right on the Rowe's Wharf. Even before the waterfront was completely renovated, their share of it was always beautiful. Plus there are so many fun happenings there including lunch/dinner cruise ship departure/arrivals, whale watches and free movies, music performances and dining.

I've never been in one of their rooms so I can't tell you about one. But I can tell you that it's location is fabulous and the exterior is gorgeous. So you can just imagine....!

Unique Quality: Beautiful waterfront location. Convenience to Faneuil Hall, the North End, Financial District and the Fan Pier area

Harbor front

The hotel is right by the harbor. However, we didn’t get a harbor view room, just plain old concrete walls from the other building. The room itself is fine although I would’ve expected more for the price range. It’s a convenient location, right on the harbor, T-station (subway system in Boston), New England Aquarium, Fanuiel Hall, Quincy Market, and of course the Freedom Trail. It’s 10 minutes from the airport by taxi. Taxi costs about $15 to $20. There’s also a ferry that goes across the Charles River and takes you the airport. The ferry costs $10 each way and starts running at 7 am in the morning.

The room was over $300 per night.

Unique Quality: Pool, Spa, and Fitness facilities

Can't wait to get back to the Boston Harbor Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

I stayed here for the first time in early September. The trip was a 50th birthday present for my husband. From the second you arrive at this hotel, you know you're a very special person. From the doorman to the reception staff, housekeeping to bar staff, these people cannot do enough for you. We stayed in a harborview superior king and it was fabulous. The room was large, beautifully decorated and spotless, ditto the bathroom. I had ordered Patriots tickets (my husband's a big fan) and the staff were as excited as he was when the concierge produced the gold envelope from the ticket agency.

The hotel is so welcoming and comfortable, it's like staying with (rich!) friends. The pool and hot tub are great to wake you up in the mornings and the barman makes one of the best Bellinis I've ever tasted. We've already booked to go back for the New Year weekend, staying in a suite this time, and I can't wait. You'd have to be insane to stay anywhere else in Boston.

There are lots of B&B's in Boston - one on Edgerly Road in the Fenway area is cheap. Also the hostel on Hemenway is nearby Fenway Park and all the music schools. There are two great pools in the city - one at the Sheraton on Dalton Street in the Back Bay and the other is at Boston Harbor Hotel by the waterfront.

beautiful hotel

by TripAdvisor Member kragan

The Boston Harbor Hotel is beautiful. It has a good location and a wonderful breakfast. The rooms are plentiful in size and nicely appointed. The beds are not the most comfortable I have slept in. They are very average like a regular hotel chain. You would expect a little better for such a nice place. Bathrooms are very roomy. Service is good. We would stay their again.

Our best hotel experience ever!

by TripAdvisor Member oneway

My wife and I stayed at the Boston Harbor Hotel for a few days during our vacation in August 2005. We were only planning on spending two nights at this hotel on our way through, but ended up extending our stay because of the excellent service and atmosphere of this hotel and the fun we were having in Boston.

From the moment we drove up to the front of the hotel we were treated first-class. We were tired after a day's drive down from Montreal and probably didn't look like first-class guests, but we were treated as if we were the only people at the hotel. We received an upgrade to a Deluxe Harbor View King Room. I opened the curtains and looked down on the multi-million dollar yachts tied up outside the hotel, and the live blues band playing on a barge floating in the water. The room contained a very comfortable bed with fine linen sheets and a down duvet. There was a desk for me to check email from my laptop. We were given complimentary wireless service. There was a sofa and a large television. A beautiful welcome package of snacks and sodas was waiting for us, and there was a personal letter from the manager of the hotel with tickets for a complimentary breakfast included.

The concierge was helpful in suggesting things to do in the area. We enjoyed the Aquarium and a very interesting harbor cruise as well as walking around the historical district and markets. Some excellent shopping only a few blocks away in a large downtown mall. The subway system is very close to the hotel, and you can take a water taxi directly to the hotel from the international airport.

We really didn't want to leave, and we will be back again!

Small Rooms, Fabulous Gym, Pool, Spa

by TripAdvisor Member JenniferBoston

I stayed with family as the Boston Harbor Hotel and was impressed with the lobby, it's antiques and ambiance. The staff are very attentive. I believe, however that the rooms are a bit on the small size for what you are paying.
The city view king deluxe at $420 is advertized as a junior suite but I would call it just a good sized hotel room. Suites I've stayed in at other local hotels feel much more spacious. And the view is not nearly as nice as the view from the Westin/Copley. If you want a great city view, stay there.
Now, the real reasons to stay at this hotel are the spa services. You can't go wrong with a late swim, soaking in the jacuzzi followed up by an early morning facial and a massage. The gym is great because it's not too big and has all the right machines. The spa services are top notch.
The Meritage restaurant is highly rated and the views from the tables facing the water are not to be missed. The food is very good but get ready to open your wallet.
The hotel location is now great - still a little of Boston's "Big Dig" going on but it is much better than a couple of years ago. Faneuil Hall, Haymarket, South Station, the Financial District, the Waterfront are all within a 15 minute walk from the hotel. The North End isn't that far away either.
I would stay here again soley for the spa.

Very comfortable

by TripAdvisor Member gbn

I paid for a city view, but got a harbor view room. Large bathroom, writing desk, closet. Twice-daily maid service really makes a difference, with turndown. Staff who recognize you. A very nice gym & pool. About 5 blocks from the metro, which is 2 stops from the airport. Within walking distance of downtown. Very nice views of the harbor. Overall, this was a very pleasant 2-night stay, and this is a place I'd be happy to return to.

Think it was worth it

by TripAdvisor Member Trixiecat

We stayed in a deluxe harbor view room with our two children in March, and overall, we enjoyed our stay. We picked this hotel for its location because we planned on visiting the aquarium, the Children's Museum and Quincy Market. Also, it seemed to be a little more upscale, and that sounded good to us.

We booked a "Frosty Weekend" special, in which you get a free room upgrade, if available. We spent quite a long time at check-in trying to get that upgrade that sounded like such a sure thing when we booked the weekend. They eventually found us a deluxe harbor view room, but it took a long time. The package also included free aquarium tickets, free IMAX tickets, free parking for the weekend and free hot chocolate from room service. I think it was a decent deal (paid about $350/night for 2 nights).

Good stuff: The view was great - the harbor, the boats and the planes across the harbor at the airport (that was a huge hit with our kids). The airport is nothing great to look at, but the water makes up for that. Most employees were very nice and helpful. The food from room service was excellent. We were a 5 minute walk away from the aquarium. The pullout couch that our kids slept on was surprisingly comfortable. The bathroom was gorgeous and huge. Overall, the hotel is gorgeous - the lobby and all the central areas were so nice that I felt like a total slob in my jeans.

Could be better: Check-in was not smooth. The room was kind of long and dark, and the overall decor wasn't quite as fabulous as I expected - but there certainly wasn't anything wrong with the room. The concierge was kind of worthless when we asked her for a suggestion of what to do on Saturday night. Our son drank his milkshake way too fast and threw up all over the bathroom - probably not the hotel's fault, but thought I would mention it in the "negative" paragraph.

Also: The Children's Museum is a LONG walk from this hotel, despite what you may have heard. Of course, it was March and it was freezing, but nonetheless, it was a long walk.

Boston Harbor Hotel

by Indecisive3

My boyfriend and I are travelling to Boston (from Western Canada) for a few days in early October for a romantic weekend and cannot make a decision on where to stay. We are stuck between the Boston Harbor Hotel, Jurys, Lenox and Eliot (in that order). We are leaning heavily towards the Boston Harbor, but as we have never been to Boston, we are uncertain whether it is central to most things and whether it is worth the price? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers!

The Boston Harbor Hotel @ Rowes Wharf is an excelent hotel, on the water, with a great location. Short walk to Quincy Market/Fanuiel Hall area or the North End. Short Subway ride to Back Bay.

Jury's is relatively new so I don't know much about it. It is in the Back bay (near the Hancock and Prudential Towers).

Lenox is right in between the Hancock and the Pru. Of the 2Back Bay choices, it is probabaly the better located (but they are within a 5 minute walk of each other.

Eliot - People seem to rave about the Eliot but is the furthest "out". It is on Comm Ave whihc is quiter than the others. It is getting closer to the Fenway Park (Baseball) area of town.

No Choice would be bad, but to see Boston, I'd pick the water and stay @ the Boston Harbor. Also, I'd suggest you look at http://www.charlesstreetinn.com/. It is a B&B on Beacon Hill that my wife and I have gone to for a romantic get-away from the kids. It is really nice and much different than a more traditional Hotel.

I'd say either the Boston Harbor or Jury's. I had lunch at one of the restaurants in Jury's last summer and we asked to see one of the rooms. They're really nice. Not very large but very comfy, beautifully decorated and well stocked with ammenities. It's also on a street that would be more quiet than if it were on Boylston St. (which it's only 3 blocks from). It's right in Back Bay and close to a lot of good restaurants, shopping, Newbury Street and The South End.

Boston Harbor is right on the waterfront and has some great outdoor space you can explore and enjoy. That's always nice especially with this hot Summer we're having. Living here, I have no use for the likes of Faneuil Hall but I remember visiting here years before I moved here when I was still a teenager and thinking it was the best place to be. It's bars and restaurants attract a lot of 20somethings. However, you're also right near The North End as well as Beacon Hill which are Boston's oldest and quaintest neighborhoods. Oh, and there's great food in the North End.

I've known several people who have stayed at the Boston Harbour Hotel, and all have said it was an excellent experience. You are minutes by foot from the North End and Quincy Market. The T is nearby as well.
