The Buckminster is a great hotel. It is not located in downtown Boston, but right next to Fenway Park and Boston University. There is a T stop nearby (Kenmore) which is a short ride to the downtown area, or it is a 15-20 minute walk down Beacon St. Normal room rates range from about $90 for an economy room with 1 bed to $180 for a suite. One time I stayed here and they gave my double room away and upgraded me to a suite for no extra charge, and the room was great. If you intend on staying in a suite, you get good value for your money here. Another time, I had the economy room and was satisfied.
The 6-floor hotel was recently renovated. The suites are very nice, and the economy rooms are decent but small. All rooms have a safe, cable TV, ironing board with iron, voice mail and modem hook-up, and radio alarm clock. The front desk is open 24 hours. You can get a smoking or non-smoking room. Check-out is 11 AM. If you drive, parking is available through a separate company next door in a garage. The garage is unattended but there is an electronic keypad which you will be given a code for. It was $25 a night. Watch the daytime parking attendent, he is sneaky - he overcharged me for an extra day and we got into an argument. Hopefully he doesn't work there anymore. | | | | Boston Hotel Buckminster: Cheap, Central & Clean Compare Rates NEW! | Satisfaction: | | | | |
Unassuming, clean, friendly, ordinary rooms in a very central location. In the heart of BU campus, with ATMs, cafes, bookstores, train and bus stops, parking garages (several) across the street. One can walk to Pru, Fenway, Newbury, and Brookline. Front desk was accomodating to requests for extra pillows, ethernet cables. Cleaning staff was diligent and there are laundry rooms on each floor. High-speed internet in every room - a boon, since there are virtually no internet cafes in Boston and wi-fi spots (StarBucks) are a joke. There are 2 parking spots in front of hotel doors, on Beacon Street, that do not require $$ (reserved valet spots, but the hotel does not have valet and the spots are available on a 1st-come basis) and plenty of metered spots along Beacon as well as Brookline.
Maluken is a great little restaurant, just off the lobby that serves early breakfast and good sushi. My room had a view of I-90, my old apartment on St. Mary's street and the Photonics building and a slice of Fenway park lights. | | | | Boston Hotel Buckminster: good value, not the nicest Compare Rates NEW! | Satisfaction: | | | | |
This hotel has a very convenient location near Fenway and Boston University. It is a good buy, but is a bit run down. The lobby is refurbished and very nice, but the rooms could use some re-doing. The rooms are very big though, some having a livingroom and a bedroom. The layout is also alot of fun- it's very easy to get lost in the hallways. Even though the hotel has somewhat modern decor, it also has an old-time essence as well. It reminds me more of a hotel one is likely to find in Europe, rather than in Kenmore square. The rooms are nice, but a bit dark. Bathrooms are very nice, and large though. They even give you a nice toothbrush as part of your typical shampoo/soap toiletry stuff in the loo though. Overall, this hotel is a good value for a good location, and isn't as bad as some reviews make it out to be. It could use some refurbishment, but it is still liveable as it is. it's good for a one night stay. Good place to stay for visiting kids/ friends who go to BU.
There are kitchens on some floors. I am not sure why. The winding corridors are fun. Breakfast is complimentary in the restaurant downstairs- Bagels, toast, cereal, muffins, etc. Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Kenmore square- near Fenway park and the BU campus. convenient for red sox gamesMap: Boston Hotel Buckminster
