What to do in Boston on Christmas Day?

by jamiewong

Hi

Was wondering what Boston places will still be open on Christmas Day. We're celebrating Christmas in a western country for the first time (we're from singapore, asia) so could you guys recommend some place christmassy (snow dusted buildings, fairy lights, caroling etc)?

Also, are there any Christmas events that we should check out?

Cheers,
Jamie :)

On Christmas Day itself, most everything is closed. Hotels, of course, are open, and those restaurants that are open usually have special menues and require reservations. That may be a good day to check out our Chinatown Section, where things are a little more normal on that day. If you want to do some exploring, www.bostoncitywalks.com will be having their regularly scheduled walking tours. That could be your chance to see the lights, wreaths and maybe the snow on Beacon Hill and in Back Bay, as well as some history on the Freedom Trail.

Travel Tips for Boston

Trinity Church

by Mikebb

This is a very old church in the heart of Boston and now included on most tour companys' sights as it makes a tremendous photo. The reflection of the church in the all glass exterior of the very tall John Hancock building makes an outstanding photo.

Located a short walk from Back Bay Station be guided by the tall Hancock Tower building which stands out on the skyline., corner of Stuart & Dartmouth Streets.

Boston Common

The Boston Common is the area where the Freedom Trail begins. As is the case with most places in this historic city known for its "old" buildings and houses, Boston Common is the oldest public park.

The bars in the city are extremely varied, some of them upper class and others little irish ;pubs. There is an eclectic gaggle of funky little clubs too and so many good restuarents/theatre etc. Meetin all the people in the hosstels and getting a fantastic apartment in an area called St Pauls which had two balconies and bats outside each per evening. Also the ferry journey up to Cape Cod was great as was the trip to the Boston Tea Party.

Take a day in the computer museum. Strange to see what was up to date only 20 years ago. Compare with today. Took a sightseeing with a funny bus. Was told all about Paul Riviere and the english tea party. Very important part of US history.

Church Organs -- a Concession to Pleasure

by AKtravelers

While the inside of Boston's churches might look austere to most, but the parishners didn't remove all art from their services. Most churches have organs for accompanying the congretgation in song. In Boston, these organs can be very old and usually had to be imported from Europe at great expense.
