I have not stayed there because I live in Boston. I did stop in the lobby and it seems very nice. It is in an excellent location in downtown Boston, also near the "T", Boston's subway.
Dorm is between $40.00 to $60.00 per person/night.
Private Room W/ Ensuite Bath 189.99 USD (per night, per room).
Contact Hotel for more info as prices may change depending on when you arrive.
Unique Quality: This hostel is about a year old and replaces the college dorms use before this hostel was open.
Directions: The hostel is located just Southeast of Boston Common. It is just down the street on the border of Chinatown.
It is walkable from South Station where the airport Silver line and busses from NYC are.

HI Boston is in the good Back Bay area of Boston. It has around 200 beds, helpful staff, good facilities and security, secure lockers and clean beds. It's a good place to start exploring, with shops just around the corner.
Booking is essential, especially in August/ September.
Unique Quality: A great location, not far from exploring Cambridge. A pleasant walk to Downtown Boston (take the scenic route along Commonwealth av. or across Copley square).
Coffee is free 24/ 7 in the kitchen

I suggest checking the website: http://www.hostels.com/us.ma.bo.html
for a Hostel in or near Boston
.
The one I named above sounds excellent, altho I have never stayed there. But if cost is an issue, I would suggest a Hostel
or
try a Bed & Breakfast. They are also less expensive than a Hotel.

You may want to make an advance reservation if you can, as it books up quickly. Also, beware of if there is a game going on at Fenway park, the streets will be packed with cars and people. It is definately the cheapest place to stay in Boston that is close to everything!
