Great Stay!!
by TripAdvisor Member tripwatcher
My husband and I enjoyed a stay at the Ritz Carlton last week. It was fabulous. The location is excellent and central to everything. We had a beautiful room; excellent city view, comfortable bed, cleaned to perfection.
The staff was very professional yet friendly and everyone knew our names.
This was not our first stay at a Ritz and certainly not our last. I have no complaints at all. It was simply a great stay.
Elegant Retreat to a Elegant Nightmare

We thought being the Classic Ritz we would be receiving Outstanding Accomodationns, thats not the case. Checked into hotel for 2 nights on the club floor. I arrived at 8:45am- our room was ready but would not check me in. The info was fax down to the hotel the night before and i call the night before to see if the hotel had it. The front desk had all the info and told me i would be ok to check in at 8:45am.''NOT GOOD. I waited 25 to 35min outside the hotel. The Front Desk was not nice at all, were busy on the phone and didn't acknowledge my presence. After checking in, the rooms and hallways was very nice. The club lounge was nice and Kelly was very, very, very nice. I then went downstairs and talked to the bell Capt.. He was not nice at all and was too busy to talk to me and said to me NO HOUSE CAR.. BAD SERVICE.I can go on and on about the bad service I got at this Hotel. I have stayed at many Ritz Carlton/Four Seasons properties and did not come close in quality.CLEARLY, I WOULDN'T STAY HERE AGAIN. "" YES WOW I COULD NOT BELIVEVE IT ''IT'S THE RITZ''

Location cannot be beat, traditional decor, a little worn, but comfortable and clean, small bathrooms. wonderful bed. staff is helpful and appropriate. bedroom wall was really thin, could hear next's guest really loud conversation at 11 pm at night and when he decided to turn on the tv at 6 AM, I could hear exactly what he was watching. (wouldn't stay in room 417 if you don't want to participate in other guests tv watching and telephone conversations)
the location is superb, though. would stay here again based on location alone.
Forget the Ritz!

Very disappointing one night stay. Some of the rooms did not have hot water - they knew this and sent us to one without warning. These things happen, but the attitude was "sorry, but not our fault, the city is at fault". The problem for us was how they handled the problem - not the lack of hot water. We were finally given a slightly upgraded room with hot water - readied ourselves to meet business customers in the bar for an important dinner out. We waited and waited and waited (not a very big place) when my husband finally went up to the bar to ask what we needed to do to get a drink. It was not crowded and they had two waiters. We used the concierge to make dinner reservations. That was an ok experience but we saw one of them being extremely rude to another guest. Poorly run hotel. Poor attitudes all around and the experience will probably cause Ritz Carlton to loose our business forever. There are too many other luxury choices. We went to the Four Seasons for drinks and dessert and had outstanding service and a wonderful dessert buffet. Lively, fun and elegant. The Four Seasons will be our hotel on our next trip to Boston!
Can I please move in?

My one-night stay was delightful. The Ritz-Carlton ethos ensures every guest is treated with deference and courtesy that are unmatched, sadly, in most of our rude and hurried world. The registration process was rapid and gracious; I was given a choice of a room overlooking tony Newbury St. or a no-view room with a much larger bath. I chose the latter and was completely satisfied. The decor was tasteful and restful (though the carpet looked a little tired) and the room was spotless. In addition to a heavenly king-sized bed, I had two comfortable upholstered chairs with matching ottomans, two straight chairs, and a capacious desk. The bathroom was certainly large, but not particularly luxe (though I did enjoy the toiletries). And what a quiet room! I rarely heard any sound of any kind, probably thanks to the thick walls and heavy doors.
Most of the hotel employees I encountered called me by name, and pronounced it correctly (no easy task). The morning wakeup call was so civilized; "Good morning, Ms. XXX;, this is your 6 am wakeup call; the temperature is 75 degrees."
Breakfast was my only meal at the Ritz and it was beyond memorable. I ordered the Newbury: Cottage cheese topped with poached mango, fresh fruit salad in a vanilla-scented syrup, yogurt with homemade granola and fresh berries. All were amazingly good, as were the fresh-squeezed orange juice, the hot coffee, and the fresh danish. I left nothing on my tray but crumbs, in spite of the generous servings.
In sum, my stay was excellent and I will return as soon as I can. Bravo, Ritz-Carleton Boston!
As expected, a fine hotel

A one-night stay on a business trip in a standard room in the newly-renovated addition. Large, comfortable, super bath with separate shower stall, and the kind of amenities one expects at Ritz-Carlton prices.
Two items worth noting:
The bed was oustandingly comfortable, with soft down pillows.
The concierge got me a pair of shoe trees, when I told him that my shoes were soaked through [that June Nor'easter].
WORST RITZ EVER!

Too many issues to list but stayed at many different Ritz in other states and would NEVER ever recommend this one to anyone. The caliber of service from front desk, housekeeping and staff were on par with the motel 6.
A Horrible Stay in Boston is Waiting for You

Terrible. Not even the word that can sum up my experience at this 'Ritz-Carlton' property. As in the review below, there is very honestly too much to write to put into words the type of service levels you will experience. This is sad for me to say, as I'm one of the most devoted Ritz-Carlton fans you can find. I rave about South beach, Central Park, Battery Park and more.... this one delivered an experience honestly worse than a Motel 6.
The Front Desk Coordinator was rude, unwelcoming and lacked the knowledge of the property and of professional service in general. He as actually apologetic for his downfalls, though, to his credit. A complimentary meal offered to us during our stay which resulted in... you guessed it... us being charged and the restaurant staff not being notified of it as we specifically had requested.
The valet staff is contracted, from what I could tell. They changed into uniform on the side of the property before work. Over a breakfast meeting one morning in the restaurant, my guests had this to look at out the window. These guys in blue shirts are semi friendly, although have absolutely no knowledge of the hotel. After being given strange info about the property or a 'I don't know', I asked if there was a pool (although I knew there wasn't). The gentleman said, "I think there is one near the roof."
Also, watch out.... they will take your tip for picking up your luggage, but will drop it off at the front desk and walk away. From there, a bellman will take your luggage to your room, requiring another tip.
WORST OF ALL is the 'experienced' bell captain ABRAHAM who has been at the property for around 20 years or so, as we were told. He was rude and unwelcoming. He waved his hand at our face when trying to request a car and was snooty and rude; I believe he was trying to tell us there was a wait for the car. Although the front door was busy, he didn't have the time to respond to questions. I watched him do the same to other guests, although he did greet apparent repeat guests. Please send him away to the Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center for service training... or better yet... send him to a Motel 6 to work.
The drain in the tub was very old... had to refill the tub to keep it full during my bath.
On the plus side, food at the restaurant was spectacular. The suite was nice, although a bit empty feeling. The property was renovated in the 80s, but again needs updating/refinishing/refreshening. The room was always very clean and the housekeepers were spectacular.
THE BEST was KELLY. She was simply spectacular... an excellent example of what the Ritz-Carlton brand is all about. She was cordial, inviting, and informative.
So, for over $1,000 a night... this is a brief overview of what to expect while staying at Ritz-Carlton, Boston. Enjoy.
