Disgusted and Fed Up with Holiday Inn Boxborough
by TripAdvisor Member travelin0
We recently spent the night at this hotel, as it was the closest one to the ice rink where we had an event to be at. First off, the customer service should have been the red flag that this was going to be a not so good time. Originally, we were going to stay for 2 nights, but then decided to stay only one. I called and cancelled the Friday night stay with ample time not to sustain a cancellation charge. When I arrived at the hotel, the person cancelled out my entire reservation. They were able to find another reservation for me, but it had me as a no show on Friday, therefore charging my credit card as a no show. After that was straightened out, I was not able to get into my room until well after check in time. There was a sign posted that the pool was closing for 1 hour for a wedding (which I understood), but I didn't understand the front desk telling me that there was another group having a pool party, and there probably was not going to be room for us to enjoy the pool. My 8 year old was not happy. Needless to say, we waited and went swimming much later that evening, but it cut into our schedule. Lastly, but most importantly, when we did arrive at our room, my husband went to take a shower and there was used soap and hair all over the entire bathroom. I nicely called the front desk who sent housekeeping up to our room. When she arrived, she said she was there to inspect, and would be back in 45 minutes after the wedding that was scheduled took place. (We needed to be showered and at an event before that). When housekeeping arrived back at our room, she came with a papertowel and spray. She removed the hair with the papertowel and sprayed just the area that the hair was on. (You think she would have brought some scowering tools and maybe used some water) I proceeded to call the front desk again and tell them of the uncleanliness and the disatisfaction. I asked for someone to come up and scrub my tub, She showed up and did a slighly better job. I say slightly, because when my husband went in to take a shower, she had removed the tub mat and left the black mold in the tub. which we din't see prior. I'm sure you see where this is going. I called the front desk again and was told maybe I should use the fitness center showers. Gross!!! We wore flipflops in the shower and didn't touch the sides. But the best part was when my husband went to dry and found dead ants in the towels. Do not stay at this hotel if you are used to staying in nice hotels. This was completely disgusting. I am pretty easy going, but I thought the effort to help us out, was just not there.
Only the Dunkin Doughnuts let me know I was near Boston

The Holiday Inn Boxborough is a very nice property. It's biggest problem is geography, given that there doesn't seem to be anything very close to it. As an example: I asked for a delivery menu and there was only one menu offered to me. The only other option was the hotel restaurant, which while it seemed very nice and reasonably priced, I would rather not have to get room service or eat in a hotel restaurant.
Pros:
Excellent staff
Wonderful reward benefit, where you can select from free breakfast, 1000 bonus points, free in room movie or $5 discount at hotel restaurant.
Clean, well lit rooms.
Free high speed internet
Plenty of free guest parking
Awesome showerhead
Cons
I participated in an event that was in the "exhibition hall." The hall smelled very damp, and almost like mildew and mold. Others at the event thought that it might smell like livestock.
Not very near Boston, which where I was flying out of, so it was an early morning drive to the airport.
Overall it was a great experience at a hotel I normally would never stay at.
Delightfully kitschy and comfy

My mother and I just spent one night at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough, and we had a wonderful time! We called that morning, asking if we could check in early. Our room wasn't ready, but the desk clerk upgraded us to a 1-bedroom suite that was. And the room was great! We needed a handicap accessible room, and our suite actually had two bathrooms: one with a regular shower and one with a large walk-in shower. If only the water hadn't been so tepid, it would have been perfect.
Our room had a large living room with a TV, fridge, microwave, and fold-out sofa and an equally large bedroom with a king-size bed and TV. The bed and pillows were heavenly, although the fold-out couch was pretty saggy. I had to call twice for an extra blanket for the bed, even though they knew we'd be using it when I checked in. But the room really was quite comfortable overall. I was tickled by the decor: brick walls, colonial furniture, and a fireplace. This clashed a bit with the tropical theme that was just outside our glass sliding doors, but that just added to the fun of the whole place.
The hotel has been recently renovated, but you can't erase the overall 1960's lounge feel that permeates it. This might not be to everyone's taste, but I loved it. Reminded me of the grand Holiday Inns I'd stay at with my parents when I was little. There is a huge central courtyard with a bar, gazebo, pool, and fountains, surrounded by the rooms, which each have a patio or balcony facing in. Our room's location was perfect; I could walk ten steps from our patio and jump right into the pool. The hotel was pretty empty during our stay, so I always had the pool to myself.
We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant, and both were fairly good. Our waitresses were outstanding, and while the menu was fairly limited, they have all the staples you would expect at a tavern-style restaurant in Massachusetts (burgers, seafood, clam chowder, crab cakes, grilled sandwiches). It's a good thing too, 'cause there really aren't any restaurants in the immediate area. If you want to dine elsewhere, I'd recommend that you jump on Route 495 (the exit is literally less than 1 minute from the hotel) and head to somewhere more populated.
Bad bed!!
by TripAdvisor Member Squarebob
I was upgaded "no charge" to a siute, which was nothing more than a larger room.
Bed was horrible; felt like I was sleeping in a pit. Internet did not work, and as someone else pointed out, the A/C in the room was not on when I arrived, and could not recover from a hot, humid, July day.
All in all, it is OK; relatively clean, and my meal in the restaurant was very good>
If you need to stay in the area, this one is OK

I wasn't expecting a luxury resort - which is a good thing. This motel meets my expectations for a Holiday Inn off an interstate highway. The heating/ventilation had issues. No hot tub, but at least it had an indoor pool. The balconies overlooking the pool side were functional, but nothing impressive about watching kids and the late evening wedding occuring in the pool/courtyard. I rate this one a resounding "AVERAGE".
Worst food I've ever had!
by TripAdvisor Member customer8
The Holiday Inn in Boxborough constantly has HORRIBLE food! The rooms aren't bad, but if your looking for something to eat - go else where. I highly recommend NOT booking any business function there as the plated food is the worst I've ever had. (I was with a group who had the following). The shrimp was hard and uneatable. The prime rib was the worst anyone has ever had. The pasta primavera had no flavor and the pasta wasn't even cooked. Sad to say the stuffed chicken was bland but the most eatable meal served.
Spare yourself the pain and look else were if planning any sort of party / function.
The rooms were clean!!

When I arrived at the hotel, I was greeted by friendly front desk staff. They seemed to genuinely want to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Upon entering the room, I noticed the cleanliness of the bathroom and bedsheets. Although I was here on business, I would absolutely bring my family here to stay on a vacation.
Great Staff

I am in this area on business alot. I stay only at this Holiday Inn. When in other cities, I use other brands due to price, location, or the staff is nicer. When in Boxborough though, always this Holiday Inn. They cost a little more, but they are worth, atleast for me. They wait on me as though i am their only customer. I see they treat everybody this way. I know they go out of their way to make sure that my stay is great, it is appreciated. I do not hand out good reviews very often as I am quite picky, but they earned a good review. Always clean, always nice, always good food.
My daughter's 1st Communion Party was perfect!
by TripAdvisor Member TheRunningMan83
We have been to this hotel many times for the brunches, holiday gatherings and other parties. Every time we leave we are amazed at how well everything went as that rarely happens these days at other places. From the staff, to the food, to the service, to the amenities, to the facility, everything is first rate. My daughter had her 1st Communion Party there a couple of weeks ago and we had yet another wonderful time. We had a private room (30 people) where we ate and relaxed amid great service and delicious food (we tried the Italian buffet). The hors d'oeuvres came first and they were fresh and hot (seafood stuffed mushrooms and the Beef Wellington were awesome). The Italian buffet had soup, antipasto, garlic bread and 3 entrees that were also fresh and delicious and plenty of it. We brought our own cake, but the Italian pastry that came with the buffet was great. It was very relaxing and not rushed and they tended to our every need even on a day that the place seemed extremely busy. We have also had another daughter's birthday there as well as kids' Christmas parties too, and all the kids used the pool in the beautiful atrium, it was a blast for all, including the adults. The kids obviously loved it as they always ask to go back. Definitely try this gem!
