Fantastic - Great Hotel!
A friend and I stayed at the Hotel Marlowe a couple months ago after reading the glowing reviews on this site and we loved it! From the fun decor to the faux-fur bedspreads and wine hour down in the "library" just off the lobby this was a very unique hotel and made our weekend in Boston much more than we had anticipated. It was cosy and warm and welcoming while also stylish and chic. The front desk staff was accommodating and helpful and the T was a short walk away. I would whole-heartedly recommend this hotel and will stay here again myself.
Pleased with our stay
We really enjoyed our recent stay at the Hotel Marlowe. We spent our first night in Cambridge at a dismal hotel across the street. After our first evening of sight seeing, my husband suggested we stop in to visit the Hotel Marlowe. Joe helped us and showed us the rooms. We were so excited to find out that the had a room available for us. The wine hour is so pleasant in the "living room." We also went to the Galleria next door for breakfast as the hotel restaurant is a little pricey for breakfast. The convenient "T" stop was also an advantage. We really had a good time and all the staff that we encountered were helpful and friendly. We would love to return for a visit and take our dog!
We recently spent 4 days at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge and thought it was fabulous. It's very modern, chic decor was like nothing I've ever seen. Leopard printed bathrobes, carpet and pillows, red velvet furniture. The overall theme reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, all of the furniture was oversized and so interesting. The bathroom had Aveda products and was also quite small. Although the room was on the small size and there was virtually no drawer space, I was able to overlook these things. Also, added bonus, pet friendly!
The Galleria mall is also in the adjacent building which made for easy quick eats.
I would recommend this hotel fully!
We stayed at the Hotel Marlow March 12-14, 2004. Me, my husband and our dog, Jack. I'm not wealthy and don't have an overbearing sense of entitlement but I am a fairly tough customer. I'll never stay anywhere else while in Boston. Not a 5-star because it doesn't have a pool, but what it lacks in jacuzzi, it makes up for in everything else.
This hotel is out of the ordinary with fun, modern/retro/elegant decor.
Some might say its elegantly funky or funkily elegant. Leopard-print bathrobes...get the idea?
It is little more than a year old so every corner and surface is impeccably clean. The lobby has a great fireplace and comfortable sitting area in which to host a great morning coffee and generous wine reception.
The staff is professional, and friendly in a way that makes you think they probably really like working there. Genuine...everyone from the chef, to the housekeepers to the concierge were warm-hearted.
Located just across the street from the Charles River and the Cambridge Parkway--a walking trail along the water. Boston is across the river and the view at night is really something special. We walked our dog in a loop from the Longfellow Bridge to the Charles River Bridge in about an hour and were enchanted the whole way.
It is an easy walk to the green line train which will take you anywhere you would want to go in Boston, and not too far to walk to the red line which can take you to Harvard Square. Cabs are also plentiful at the adjacent Cambridge Side mall. (Don't worry, mall entrance is on a side street, so you don't have to deal with it or shoppers if you don't want to.)
This hotel is not only pet friendly, but has really made some thoughtful overtures to welcome and entertain your best friend. There are many wonderful touches that are best kept as surprises, but be sure to mention you are bringing your pet so they can anticipate your arrival.
excellent hotel, great experience
I had a great time in the hotel. They have the best services and the greatest restaurant!! We stayed there three nights and had dinner there twice. Excellent food and services. Great place to saty!!!
Wonderful Stay, Pet Friendly, By Charles River, Walk to Boston
We found this hotel when looking for a hotel that accepts dogs.
(Typically, only the mid to low priced motels do, but this sure ain't that!!) We then read these reviews and were impressed--100% not only positive, but glowing. We agree! It was a lovely hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, all making for a wonderful stay. First off, the rooms were very, very nice and even the hallways were very inviting (well decorated, beautiful rugs, owing, in part to its newness). The location was excellent. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the Green Line, for easy access to Boston (10 minutes to Haymarket stop, for Quincy Market, North End, etc). But even better, on a nice day: the hotel is across the street from the Charles River. You can walk along a lovely pathway, adjacent to the Charles, then take the Longfellow Bridge into Boston (Beacon Hill area) or walk to the Harvard Bridge, which takes you into the Back Bay area. (Tip: I took these walks earlyish in the morning--7 AM--and it was particularly lovely). Once you're in Boston, you can walk wherever! Also located within very short walk to Science Museum.
(Whis is also a starting point for a Duckboat Tour which we took. Yes, a bit touristy but very enjoyable for us all (our kids are 17 and 10)--our "conDUCKtour"--their phrase, not mine--was Kegler, who was very good and funny). Hotel is also located next to a shopping mall--Cambridge Galleria. It's the typical mall, but it can come in handy, especialy for finicky kids eaters because there is a food court--the usual stuff (including Au Bon Pain for a quick breakfast), but a nice setting--as well as a California Pizza Kitchem, Cheesecake Factory and Italias plae. We ate one night at the Hotel restaurant (Bambara?), something we are leery of, but it was truly excellent. Thy don't have a kids menu but they made a grilled cheese for the kids, served with delicious french fries, and only charged $6.50. Now, that's accommodating. And, the price was excellent for Boston--$209 for one night, $149 for a weekend night. And our AAA rate allowed us free parking at the Galleria so we kept the car there and took the T, or walked, everywhere. A wonderful and excellent experience. And, by the way, our dog did well too!!!
Outstanding Hotel, Wonderful Staff & Service
This hotel is worth traveling to Boston for! Our room was amazing. We had a beautiful view of the Charles River. The level of service and friendliness of the staff alone sold me on the place. The hotel itself is elegant, stylish, and very, very cozy.I recommend it highly.
Sleek, sexy hotel
Great hotel, sleek and fashionable. Very nice sitting area off of the lobby, nice rooms with leaopard pattern robes, great furnishings. Beds also very, very comfortable. Adjacent to the very nice Cambridgside Galleria mall, but otherwise, isn't central to the areas in Cambridge you'd most likely hang out it. Roughly a 10 minute taxicab to Harvard Square, but the rates and furnishings beat anything else you could find in the Cambridge area.
