  • Lovely weekend retreat

We researched lodging accommodations prior to our arrival and chose to stay at The Shiverick Inn located in Edgartown. The photos on the website do not do justice to the actual Inn, of course, I suppose most photos tend not to exceed an actual experience.

The elegance of the inn is really something to experience. The building dates to 1840 and the owners have done such a wonderful job of furnishing it with many antiques from that period. Lots of silver and crystal and oriental rugs and an amazing vintage concert piano (I think it is a Steinway) in the living room. One afternoon when no one was around, I sat and played a little bit. It was incredible.

Our accommodations included a California king bed with a private bath, and although we were on the first floor, it was always quiet. Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious, and the teas in the afternoons were an unexpected delight.

When approached, the innkeepers were very friendly and always willing to lend a hand or advice. During our stay, we were surprised to learn that the inn welcomes guests traveling with dogs. We met a very nice couple who were traveling with their two dogs, I think one was a bulldog and the other was a golden retriever. It was funny because apparently their guest room was not far from ours and not a peep from their dogs. Who would have ever thought that such an upscale inn would take pets. Had we known, we might have brought ours too.

Also the inn has a large parking lot which was nice since traffic and parking can be a challenging ordeal especially during the summer on the Vineyard, and the inn even provides beach towels and beach chairs so we didn't have to bring them. Overall, we had a great time and really appreciated being pampered.

  • Storybook Christmas!

    by

Our stay at The Shiverick Inn was amazing. We really enjoyed staying in such a historic and elegant Inn. Breakfasts were delightful and the afternoon self-serve teas were also splendid. Our suite was very comfortable and cozy, and I loved having a fireplace in the bedroom. If you like celebrating Christmas, you'll love how the Inn is decorated. It's truly a Courier & Ives experience. Also the innkeepers were extremely attentive and very gracious. We're hoping to return next summer

  • A wedding to remember!

    by

We just attended a wedding here. Our stay and celebration was incredible. We stayed at The Shiverick Inn. I love old Victorian inns that sparkle with crystal and silver, and of course exceptional antiques. This particular Inn is very elegant yet the attitude is very casual. Decorated for Christmas, the mantles and staircase were trimmed with garland and ornaments. I guess it was a bit to early to put up fresh tree. Nevertheless, if you're into Christmas, you wouldn’t have been disappointed. Every thing was very festive and antique looking. Breakfasts were great and the teas in the afternoon were nice too. Our room had a working fireplace which made the room even more cozy and romantic. What really made our stay so wonderful, however, was how welcomed we felt. The Innkeeper was very gracious and kind, and she certainly helped to make the wedding and our stay very special indeed. We definitely would recommend this Inn, and plan on returning in the summer.
