Things to do in Cape Cod in October???

by babaduck

We're staying in Hyannis for a week from October 7th - 14th on honeymoon - we've arranged a 5 day car rental while there & would really appreciate your advice on where to go, what to do & where to eat on the Cape during our stay. We'd also love to get the ferry over to either Natucket or Martha's Vineyard for a day trip but don't know which island to choose

Thanks!!!

since you will be there for a few days, and have a car you have many options. going over to natucket or the vineyard would be fine..
Hyannis is a nice place....We walked around town, great shopping and places to eat...your at the end of the season for many things so crowds should not be to bad...If the duck tours are running take one,you will see alot of the area...
Since there are really only two major roads its very easy to get around,Dennis port has some nice places to eat and shopping..
It.s a long ride out to the point ( p town)..that time of year water will be cold, but still could be nice on the beach, weather permitting...

September/October is my favorite time on the Cape, so you are fortunate to be gong then. Hyannis has really come back and is relaxing to stroll around. The Cape Cod Duckmobiles are too funny! They are based on Main Street in Hyannis, and are tons of fun. You can go out to see the Kennedy Memorial, take a cruise to view Hyannisport and the Kennedy Compound, or go to the Kennedy Museum right in the center of town. And it's always nice to stroll along the harbor in the evening.

Venturing out of Hyannis, there is the Yarmouth Harbor Festival on Columbus Day Weekend. (Check local newspapers and flyers for full info) Get in the car, head north on Rt. 28 from the airport rotary. You will come to the ASPCA building on the left. Several miles later, keep your eyes peeled to the left. You'll come to a cranberry bog. It should be flooded and in the middle of harvest at that time, and it's the most amazing sight. (There are bogs all over the Cape - just ask around)

I love the town of Sandwich. There is a place called Heritage Plantation and Gardens which features hundreds of acres of gardens and wooded paths. There is a world-class classic car museum in the Shaker barn on the grounds, as well as a toy soldier musuem, art gallery and vintage, working carousel. In the town itself, the Sandwich Glass Museum, Hoxie House, Thornton Burgess House and grist mill are must-see stops. (combination tickets are available at each location) Cap it off with afternoon tea at the Dunbar house for a truly unique dining experience.

The Cape Codder hotel in Hyannis has a fabulous day spa and you don't have to be a guest to book treatments. Relax with a massage, get pampered with a pedicure, then dine in the Hearth and Kettle restaurant in the main lobby. (there are Hearth and Kettle's all over the Cape. Nothing fancy, just good, wholesome fare, with local specials, at reasonable prices)

The Vineyard is closer than Nantucket and is my personal preference. Either are fine to do for a day trip.

For a truly romantic dinner, book the Cape Cod Dinner Train. It is located right in Hyannis at the train station. They have restored trains that run from Hyannis to the Cape Cod Canal and back at sunset, through cranberry bogs, fields and towns. Dinner is delicious, and is served with white-glove precision while you relax and travel back to a slower-paced time.

Congratlutions, and have a wonderful time on beautiful Cape Cod!

The waterfront park has some interesting design elements. There is a nautical theme to the space and tall poles have buoy markers poking toward the sky. Information about the events around the waterfront and various other local "scoop" can be found posted on the skiffs or rowboats which are standing on end in a couple of locations around the perimeter of the park. Rather a clever way to display their bulletin boards.

Welcome to Hyannis!! This was one of my favorite places to site see while at the cape. There were so many things to do and not enough time to do all the things we wanted to see and do! Oh well, we have to save some things for our next trip. :-)
