We didn't stay here. I wish! However, we arrived early for the wedding. (My date was singing the Katoobah.) We got to see the Bridal Suite so of course I snapped a foto for my VT page! We also went back the day after for a brunch. So, we did get to spend a fair amount of time there. Enough to know what a beautiful place it is and know that I'd love to go back!
Unique Quality: Amazing woodwork in the main lobby, rolling golf courses and gorgeous views. The reason I'm not giving it a 5 star rating is because as nice as the place is, the food left something to be desired. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great.

Four of us did a girls' getaway weekend and it was a lot of fun.
We elected to take the spa package which includes a 50 minute spa treatment of your choice, lunch and dinner, use of the facilities, classes, pool, whirlpool, steam room and sauna...
Our adjoining rooms were huge. We could have held a cocktail party for 50.
We all started our day w/an 80 minute yoga class followed by our elected treatments.
I got the Carita Skin Renovateur body treatment and the others had the Deep Tissue Massage w/Moist Heat. We strolled to lunch in our robes and slippers-heaven.
Then we steamed and whirled and sauned and showered and ventured into Great Barrington to browse the shops.
Dinner included way to much food which we felt inclined to eat because it was included.
Sunday one of us slept in, some were up early for morning stretch and pool aerobics, I lifted weights and then attended the yoga class again.
Unique Quality: Beautiful pool, nice spa area, excellent lunch buffet, beautiful views of the Berkshires...no complaints.

Really, all we did in Lenox was to attend a wedding so all I can recommend is that you check out the gorgeous resort where it was held. The Cranwell Inn is beautiful, classy and will bring you back to another time.... Drive around the grounds and go into the lobby and look at the gorgeous woodwork in it.
There was a brunch for the guests, the day after the wedding, which we attended. I had put all the food I wanted on my plate but when I attempted to put maple syrup on just my French Toast, the jug opening got stuck at first. When it did open, it poured SO much syrup out that it got all over ALL my food! I thought about chucking it and starting all over but then decided that I'd just eat it like that.
Scrambled eggs and maple syrup has NOT become a favorite of mine consequently.
This is a Motel, you drive in to check in and no one will help you with your luggage or getting to your room which in our case was on the other side of the "resort" The food and service were terrible, no in-room dinning, you have to do "Take Out"!
We had beautiful views of the parking lot, our bed was unconfortableand our sheets were ripped. It was pretty bad. To top it all off our bill itemized bill included "Housekeeping Gratuity" I've never seen that one before....
My husband and I went to Cranwell for a golf and spa weekend getaway before our first child is born. I don't consdier us picky travelers... below iswhat I think are the pros and cons for the resort:
Pros:
Spa: it's nice that all day you can just the steam room, sauna, whirpool and sauna facilities. I enjoyed my 50 minute pre-natal massage very much. Also, the indoor pool is nice. Unless there are screaming kids in the pool which was the case on Saturday...
Golf: my husband said the course was nice and pretty challenging.
Mansion: we enjoyed our dinner and buffet breakfast there.
Con:
Really only one major one, OUR Room: The walls were PAPER thin in the founders cottage where we stayed. I was 7 months pregnant and had a hard time falling asleep because of all the noise from the other room and the hallway. Also, It was a big room but not all that updated. Bed was kind of uncomfortable as well.
When I first read these reviews I was quite concerned. After my stay I now wonder who actually wrote the negative reviews. I have to say, you have to take these negative reviews with a grain of salt. I was a regional director for one of top ranked hotel chains in the world.
I had an absolutely wonderful stay! Everyone was friendly, professional, and very caring. The room was clean, well appointed, and large. What I was most impressed with the details. We were there while a prom was going on. We had no idea there were teen age kids in the building. The staff and security kept the quiet and away from the other guests.
Coming from the hotel industry I can only think the negative comments on this system came from either their competition or the type of guest that can never be satisfied.
So take these negative comments with a grain of salt.... most of them are so distorted they are unbelievable.
We had a wonderful stay!
We had our wedding at Cranwell, and made it an elegant event DESPITE the incredibly incompetent staff. Our open bar, for some reason, was conducted as an embarrassing cash bar, the entrees were of such a lessier quality than what we had previously tasted, they shafted us at the spa in terms of prices, they made the groom MOVE ROOMS the night before the wedding, and after the wedding there was nothing for us to eat, not even the entrees that we asked them to box up and deliver to our rooms after a few guests didn't show. We were seated for dinner at a miniature table that came to our knees -- we looked ridiculous. And worst of all? They gave us a bill that wasn't itemized -- just a blanket statement that was far above our estimate -- and SEVERAL of our gifts "went missing" between the reception and our room. Seriously: we never got the gifts that our friends brought us. Unreal. It's a beautiful property, but the staff is truly ridiculous and has no idea what follow-through means for such an important day.
Excellent!! Superb! My husband and I had our wedding at the Cranwell this month. It was beyond perfect. I am shocked by the previous person's review - I almost feel as if they made it up. The staff at the Cranwell is beyond attentive and extremely competent. They took care of every single little detail that needed taking care of. They went above and beyond what there responsibilites were to ensure that our entire weekend at the Cranwell was perfect. Our guests commented that is was the nicest wedding that they had ever been to and that the Cranwell was amazing. None of our guests who stayed at the Cranwell had any complaints. The food was incredible and they even gave us extra wedding cake to take back to our bridal suite for later that night. They boxed up all our items and returned them to us the next morning. All of our gifts were accounted for. This is a quality establishment. By far the best service and attention to detail that I have experienced. I didn't need to worry about a thing for the wedding - they had it all under control.
