Travel Tips for Middleboro

Entering Middleboro! Don't blink or you'll miss it

by Phildagr8

"What's in town? Not much, but it's all you need."

Middleboro is the town next to Plymouth, sort of. It's like in the 'middle', between Taunton/Raynham and Plymouth. Downtown has all there is. The Post Office, Benny's hardware store, coffee shop, 2 gas stations, furniture store, a Sovereign bank, and many specialty stores.

Middleborough has an annual race (that I shall soon run), a few pizza places, and about 7 gas stations. There is a Dairy Queen, Dunkin Donuts, a Subway, Aubuchon's, Papa Gino's, a Burger King and McD's. There's a Hollywood video, too. (I tried Pappa Timmy's pizza place, and since their pizza is very, very good, I had no reason to try any place else.) There are 2 drug store chains: a Brooks and a CVS. There are 2 supermarkets in town: a Hannaford's and a Stop 'n Shop. And there are 2 car wash places, one automatic and one DIYourself. There's also Dave's Diner and the Fireside Grill, 2 awesome places to go eat. There's also a State Trooper station in town on Rt.28, so buckle up!

"The major roads thru town...."

The roads thru town are 'famous' but few. Rt 105, Rt 28, and Rt 18 take you to everywhere you need to go in town. Rt 105 is exit 4 off I-495, and it crosses over Rt 44. Rt.44 is the only direct east/west road that connects Plymouth, Middleboro, Taunton/Raynham, and eventually Providence, RI.

So, if you're heading to or from Cape Cod on 495, you can get off Exit 4 and within a 1/4 mile, choose from 3 gas stations right off the exit, get a pizza while you're getting your 1-hour film developed at the Brooks drug store, while getting tonights wine at the liquor store, getting your spare wiper blades at the auto parts store, a Blizzard from Dairy Queen and a coffee from Dunkin Donuts. Whew!! I would definitely call that an active and efficient rest stop.

"Ocean Spray is in town, too!"

There are a lot of cranberry bogs in Middleboro and in the surrounding region. Ocean Spray has a cranberry processing facility in town that is on Rt.18, just south of the rotary by about 2 miles. I don't know if they offer tours, but that would be an interesting thing "to do". There's a whole story on how they harvest and rate the quality of a cranberry. (Each one is tested to have the proper "bounce" to be approved for use, and so on.) It isn't the typical crop that you have to go out and physically pick. Some of the cranberry bogs have been handed down from generation to generation. Once you hear "the cranberry story", you'll have a renewed appreciation for cranberries. ;o)
