More about Best Western Cold Spring
Ask for the Brazilian Special!
Leblon, apparently named after a neighborhood in Rio, recently opened in the Benny's grocery shopping area across the street from Best Western Cold Spring. We were hoping to pick up some light dinner from Benny's or even from the Brook's Pharmacy there but happily discovered that Leblon was open for special business that Sunday night. Normally Leblon serves Italian cuisine, but the owners were having a special Brazilian dinner night for their friends. Lucky for us! We enjoyed a lovely meal and enjoyed talking with the chef/owner, who'd worked at another restaurant in Pembroke called Boca for six years, his wife and their cute three-year-old son Matthew. We were given a choice of traditional Brazilian pork or beef dishes, or ordering off the Italian menu. We both ordered the Brazilian beef - so good! Thin strips of beef, specially seasoned and dipped in vinegar, were so tender and delicious! The meal was served with white rice, beans (not refried), and a side dish that the chef's wife makes involving corn, carrots, potato sticks and chicken in a mayo base.
Even though there's apparently another Brazilian place in town, Leblon should really consider making their Brazilian dishes part of their permanent menu.
Best Western Cold Spring is not right on the water but it's close enough. It's not far from the Mayflower II and other waterfront sites. Close driving distance from Plimoth Plantation too.
The hotel room we had was spacious and very clean. Nothing fancy but comfortable. We had a room w/2 beds and added a roll-away for an additional $10/night. The bathroom was large and very clean. AC worked well and kept us cool. The complex is very large with several units. The area is nicely landscaped and it was pleasant to eat our complimentary continental breakfast on the patio. The only downside was the construction noise in the morning (looked like they were doing some renovations).
Staff is friendly and helpful.
I booked the Best Western Cold Spring based on the
glowing reviews on this site, and I could not have
been more pleased with the choice. I enjoyed all
aspects of my stay. I was greeted at check in with a
smile and relevant advice. I received a property map
and map of the historical downtown Plymouth area that
proved to be very helpful when navigating the
attractions the next day. After check-in, I
proceeded to a clean, spacious room with comfortable
beds. The grounds are meticulously maintained. I had
not noticed how beautiful the landscape was when I
arrived in the dark. I enjoyed the complimentary
breakfast as I took in the beautiful surroundings. It
was at breakfast that I had the good fortune to meet
one of the owners, Bob, who provided me with some area
sightseeing advice. Everyone seemed low key and
unpretentious, which created a more relaxing
environment. The good location and knowledgeable
staff simplified my tour of Plymouth. The family that
runs the property has done a great job restoring and
maintaining the hotel and staffing it with team of
people who make sure their guests have a special and
Excellent value for money
We recently stayed at Cold Spring for 1 night with my in-laws visiting from England. We thought the idea of offering a discounted rate for seniors was great although we did expect to have a smaller room; this I am happy to say was not the case. Both rooms had 2 huge comfortable pillow-top beds with plump pillows which did not feel like a rock - no joke intended! The rooms were spacious and very clean; they provided a coffee maker, hairdryer and wireless internet which I seem to recall being free at the time. The pool looked excellent, although as it was November we gave it a miss!
I imagine that most travellers would prefer to be staying at one of the bigger hotels facing the Mayflower or the sea, this was our first thought; but having reconsidered, the location of Cold Spring was excellent. It was just 10 minutes walk away from the tourist information center, and just 2 minutes away from a small shopping plaza - very handy for buying a bottle of wine, soda and snacks for the evening. The store also had complimentary bottle chilling if you didn't fancy going to the ice machine in the hotel.
I would seriously urge people to consider this hotel, it may not be on the main "tourist drag" overlooking the sea, but do you really travel all that way to look out of a window? Treat yourself to something nice with the money you will save - we saved between $20 - $60 at least per room just by being 1 block away from the sea. Come on people get walking, enjoy the clean air!!! (No I am not a keep fit fanatic!)
So-so Stay in Plymouth
Not sure why this place ranks three stars. I'd give it 2-1/2 at most. We paid $80 a night for 2 nights in late March - not exactly the high season. (We'd tried priceline but couldn't get a taker.)
Our room, #8, was rather small and had wood paneling (real wood, but made the room feel dark). Windows off to the sides above the bed so cold air funneled onto us at night. The lower area of the motel complex was being renovated so there was a backhoe outside our window.
No tub, just a shower. The sink didn't hold water, either, so it was hard to give our baby a bath. Toilet seat was pretty banged up looking. Basic toiletries, but at least there was a soap dish.
This Best Western was a private operation not too long ago and is still run as one - the front desk is only open from 8 am to 9 pm so any requests before/after and you're calling someone at home. We had a "bathroom emergency" that took 30 minutes to get fixed - actually we had to do the job ourselves.
Breakfast is included - cereal, breads, a few fruit choices, coffee, juice. Limited quantities, though - the second morning we were two of only a handful of guests and there was only one pack of the oatmeal we wanted and no decaf coffee. Coffee maker was in the room though (and tea was provided although we had to ask for herbal decaf).
What a GREAT Value!!!
If you're looking for a very nice relaxing place to stay. within convenient walking distance to a couple of very good restaurants - stop looking - this is the place. The rooms were very clean, and the free internet was a plus also. We drove over from NYC (staying at the Sheraton Towers near Times Square the day before). The room here was larger, the beds much more comfortable, & the staff more customer oriented - all for about 1/4 the price. Also, if you've never been to Plymouth, take a tour on the Plymouth Trolley that you can pick up at the Visitor Center a short drive from the hotel - inexpensive, fun & informative. The East Bay Grille & the Lobster Hut restaurants are also just a couple of blocks away - both very good (the first a full service restaurant, the latter a quick service type - but with awesome food!). We would make the Cold Spring a definite place to stay again!
Attention to detail
Stayed 4 nights here in July. We booked a deluxe suite which was perfect in every way. The room was spacious and immaculate with an excellent bathroom. The staff at reception were very pleasant ,efficient and knowledgeable. The grounds were very well maintained and the pool was large with towels available for guests use. The water was a good temperature and there was piped music by the pool to relax to. Complimentary breakfast was included in the price and this was impressive as we had not expected much. There were cereals, fresh fruit, pastries etc available - constantly restocked by an attentive member of staff.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and could not find fault with any aspect of the hotel.
The hotel has an excellent location, within walking distance from the waterfront yet in a quiet place. The rooms are excellent, spacious, well-maintained and clean, as are the grounds. The staff is very friendly. I would return to this hotel and I recommend it to other travelers.
Great Value hotel
Really good value hotel. Upgrade your room as the blocks are different and the upgrades are not much. Very clean with a great pool for the kids. Rooms large, clean and serviced every day. The best continental breakfast of our trip although this hotel was one of the cheapest. Thai restaurant in town is wonderful but avoid the Cabbyshack unless you want to wait 1 hour for the wrong meal!
