Sometimes you can walk between the houses to where the beach opens up and other times it's a narrow lane between the two main streets. You always find something interesting along the way. We walked so long I thought my back would collapse...but we made it back...and after a bit of aspirin and a glass of wine...a good sleep... I was fine.
Renowned sea food restaurant right in the heart of 'downtown' Provincetown. Nothing fancy - the emphasis is on the food rather than the decor. Homely and welcoming (and big - there are two floors). Lobster is the speciality (no surpise there) but the whole gamut of seafood and fish is on offer. Lobster does nothing for me, but having discovered the delights in Boston of New England scallops....
THE MARINE SURPLUS STORE ON THE 'MAIN DRAG' OF THE TOWN. YOU CAN SPEND HOUR LOOKING THRU THE STORE AND FIND ANYTHING FROM CUTEZY WALL MAGNETS TO GAS MASKS.
THINGS YOU CAN'T FIND ANY WARE ELSE ON THE WORLD.
The Pilgrim Monument is the highest point in Provincetown and can be seen from miles away. It was built to commemorate the landing of the Pilgrims there in November 1620, before they went to Plymouth. (Most people don't know that they landed here first.)
According to the museum's literature it is the tallest granite structure in the United States, and the view from the top is amazing.
The museum itself tells a lot about the history of Provincetown and the Cape, including information about the Mayflower Compact which the Pilgrims drew up and signed in Provincetown. It also hosts a number of nice visiting exhibits. Coming here is a great thing to do on a day when the weather isn't so good for the beach.

Q: place to stay on the docks? "A friend told me that there was an affordable place to stay with small "shacks" literally on the docks in p-town. Does anyone..."
A: "There are a few places that are built on wharfs, notably Captain Jack's Wharf on the West end of town and Angel's Landing or Poor Richard's Landing on the East End...."
