Visiting Springfield Massachusetts

by Janemei

Hi there people of Springfield

I'm going to Springfield this weekend, long memorial weekend for two nights. What are some activities to do? I know about the Basketball Hall of Fame, Forest Park, Dr Seuss. Where else are there to visit?

I don't mind if it's greater area of springfield. I'm coming from New York.

Thanks so much.

West of Springfield you have the Berkshires, which have some cute artsy towns (Lenox, Stockbridge, etc.). If you are into art, visit the Norman Rockwell museum near Stockbridge. The website www.berkshirelinks.com has a list of things to see and do in the area.

Thanks, just checked out the website for Berkshires, looks good. Also a fan of hiking, where is a good trail to hike in springfield?

I've never been hiking around there, but I know that there is a mountain named Mount Tom that I have seen articles about.

Not sure if it is your thing but Six Flaggs will be opening daily on June 22nd. The Quabbin resvoir is close by for some good scenery. Old Sturbridge village is not to far away either. Have a great trip.

"West across the Mass Pike - toward the Birkshires"

UNDER CONSTRUCTION .... PLEASE RETURN

We made a short visit to Springfield on our way to see a man about a "thing".
Several things came to our attention readily... which I will list for you to explore more thoroughly.
Springfield is about 2/3's of the way across the state off Rte 90, the Massachusetts Turnpike. The Connecticut River runs right along side the city, requiring several bridges to connect it to West Springfield, where we needed to be that day. There are parks along the river which were not an issue for us that cold day in January.
Springfield grew as a result of the Springfield rifles... made in the oldest armory in America...and now a National Historic Site.
Springfield is the town where a man tacked a peach basket up on a pole and created the game of basketball...the Basketball Hall of Fame is housed in Springfield today.

"Basketball... Home"

We scheduled a stop to Springfield for 1 reason. To vist the Basketball Hall of Fame.

We knew little of Springfield before arriving and know little of Springfield now.

But Now I've been to the Home of Basketball. What else is there left to do now.
