Holiday Inn Alpena: Easy access to the northern shoreline

We were driving the shoreline, when we decided that Alpena would be the best place to stop for the night and to drive up for the day to see the lighthouses on Presque Isle. After driving all the way through town, checking the travel guide, we learned that most of the hotels were on the westside of town on Michigan 32. Since we wanted to drive up US 23 the next morning, we stopped at the Holiday Inn, one of only 2 or 3 places on the northside. It was comfortable and the church next door had a wooded path out front, where we spend a pleasant hour in the early evening.
I've always had fond memories of the Holiday Inn, I would have birthday parties and christmas parties there when I was a child, the pool area is great for familes and parties.
The pool area is one of my favorite things about this hotel, we always rented a room that opens to the pool area.
