One of the most interesting things about Ann Arbor is the complete and utter lack of dress code. In general nobody cares what you're wearing; you can walk into a fancy restaurant wearing shorts and a T-shirt and hardly get a second glance as long as you're clean. There might be exceptions to this rule, but they're few and far between. It's really refreshing after traveling in Europe, Asia, or even New York.
Although the place is usually crowded, the food and service are worth the wait! It's a sports bar, as defined as a bar with a lot of televisions tuned to sporting events, but it's far from stereotypical. It's a common meeting place for people of all interests and backgrounds. The Navaho Chicken Salad Sandwich is my favorite. It's your basic chicken salad with chipotle seasonings. Nice and smoky/spicy. Good stuff!
The best way (in my opnion) to enjoy the Fleetwood is to go there anytime after midnight. They have great diner food that isn't too greasy or too expensive. Try the Hippie Hash and sit outside so you can people-watch.
How to know if an ethnic restaurant is good in this university town? If the place is packed with foreign students far from home, it's probably a gem. Dynersty is just the spot for Chinese food that's packed with lots of Chinese students eating large portions for modest prices. General Tso's Chicken
Our first trip to Ann Arbor was just a quick over night visit. It was supposed to be much more but changing plans( and Liz's terrible cold) had us planning our second visit here before the first ended.
