Ann Arbor Tip
by SilverVelvet
Ann Arbor doesn't necessarily have a single 'must-see' attraction, but the central downtown area in itself is a perfect way to spend a tranquil day in a European-styled city. The streets are lined with cafes tables, students rushing to class, well-heeled locals reading the New York Times, activists shouting their message to the world from their soapboxes at the local version of London's 'speaker's corner' in the park, street musicians playing for tips, lots of unique shops such as a chess store, theatres that specialize in foreign and independent films, art galleries, clubs, cozy pubs, and, of course, lots of bookstores. It's also nice to walk around the central campus to admire the design of the buildings that are intended to look older than they are.
Walking through the Arboretum...

Walking through the Arboretum - the university has a large area of land that is basically in the city that is great to walk around. It is quite hilly and goes down to the river. It is very pretty, and very relaxing (or great for a short trail run) You can enter the 'Arb' from near the hospital or off of Geddes, just east of Observatory
Coffee that perks me up!
by yooperprof about Sweetwaters coffee and tea
This is a local coffee establishment that is several steps ahead of the local chain competition. Excellent selection of a variety of coffees and teas, and excellent locally-baked sweets and sandwiches. Free wireless, too!
Mmm...scotch
by julieuzi about Ashley's
With hundreds of beers on hand and a 4 page single malt scotch menu Ashley's is a place for connoisseurs.
For your late night munchies try the Stilton Fries...Yummy! Scotch Sampler - why drink one single malt when you can try three?
Museum of Art

The Ann Arbor Museum of Art, isn't the Louvre, but it's worthwhile visit with lots of special activities. For example, VT member paxgothica enjoys the monthly (free) tea ceremonies that are held in the Japanese wing. There's a different tea cememoney each month with a host to explain what's happening as the ceremony takes place. The current temporary exhibit celebrates the work of Picasso.
