Deluxe lodging in the north woods
Kewaunaw County Park is a first class resort. Created during as a way to revive the econonmy as the copper mines began to close, the Park includes the lodge, an 18 hole golf course, and the best restaurant on the peninsula. Although it is one of the more expensive places on the Kewaunaw, you'll find the prices well in keeping and below most any resort you'll visit elsewhere. The prices are reasonable.
We stayed in the lodge cabins, there is also a motel unit, for a week. We were pleasantly surprised to find them well kept, clean, solid and not musty or showing their age. Later in the week, we meet the pest man, who regularly insures that the cabins are not being damaged by termintes and other bugs, and that there are no bugs bothering the guests. They are on top of their game.
Each cabin has a fireplace and wood is available. A short walk (uphill) brings you to the main building and the Pro-shop. It was a pleasure to walk to our meals (you can drive). More than a meer pleasure was the evening walks back in the twilight from dinner to our cabin.
2006 Rates:
1 bedroom cottage 1-2 guest ($109.00)
2 bedroom cottage 1-4 guest ($125.00)
3 bedroom cottage 1-6 guest ($139.00)
Motel Room 1-2 guest ($90.00 + $5.00 each additional guest)
Unique Quality: Quiet, restful with a friendly staff and friends you haven't meet yet in the other guests. Nestled in the woods atop the ridge, the wind rustles through the trees and the early sun warms your day.

If You Enjoy Golf or a Rustic Atmosphere
If you enjoy golf, then the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge is the place for you. You will find log cabins with fireplaces, trees, a log lodge with hotel rooms and a restaurant, as well as the golf course. This golf course is a 9-hole Bent grass course, which was built in 1933. This beautiful, hilly course has no sand bunkers, and the wind often becomes a major factor. There is a pond that comes into play on hole #6. The course has gone through some major improvements in the recent past. The Keweenaw Lodge also features tennis and shuffleboard courts. Look at the stonework around the restaurant, if you think CCC, you are absolutely correct. This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the rustic lodge. They use to have the best prime rib in the UP, but sadly in 2003 when we ate there the quality of the meat had slipped, and although not bad, it was very so-so. In the event that you arrive in Copper Harbor by boat (your own or a friends) and have eaten at the Harbor Haus a number of times so would like to try the lodge, call them from the marina and they will send a car down to pick you up. If you would be interested in staying here overnight check out their web site for more details. The photo is from a Keweenaw web site and was taken by Michael Robold.
