Great Stay Great Hotel
by TripAdvisor Member TexasRoadWarrior
I read the reviews and decided to stay at this property. The front desk staff was EXCELLENT. The room was clean and had no scent or smell at all. Housekeeping does a great job. The breakfast in the morning was very good as well. I will definitely stay here again next time in Detroit.
Good times, good hotel

This is a very good hotel. I had an excellent corporate rate, but I would probably not pay their rack rate for one of the rooms. The restaurant is questionable. (I once received spoiled milk.) As for the staff, they are awesome! The GM is an excellent guy and will bend over backwards for anyone who stays at this property. I would recommend a room that does NOT face the Southfield Freeway, as that can be fairly noisy. The beds are very comfortable, the suites are great (if you can score one, consider yourself privileged), and parking is adequate (except when there is a car show.) Location is "so-so", as it overlooks a rather shady area and is not a place you would want your mother to walk alone at during the night. However, if you have a car (You're in Detroit, so you should!), you're close to most everything in Dearborn.
Doubletree staffers need a customer-service refresher course

My husband and I stayed here when we attended a wedding in the area. It happened that the hotel was sold out that night, due to March Madness. When we arrived at 2:15pm (normal check-in is 3pm) we were told that there were no clean rooms available because so many people had checked in early. There was an older couple (belonging to the basketball group) that was told the same thing, by another front desk attendant at the same time. We both decided to wait in the lobby. After about 15 minutes, the attendant helping the other couple walked up and told them they could check in. The woman helping us avoided eye contact until we went back up to the desk. When we did go back she acted as though we had never been up there, but did give us a room this time.
We got room 521, which we saw upon the elevator doors opening. Not only is it right in front of the elevator, but the main wall is along the hallway, so you can hear people coming and going all night long. We didn't even open the door to the room before going back down to request another room. When we did, we were told that was the only room available (it still was not even 3pm yet, so there should have been plenty of open rooms). The woman at the desk obviously didn't want to deal with us and said all she could do was give us 621, the same room on one floor higher. We took it though, because at least there would not be anyone staying above us.
Coincidently, two friends of ours checked in after us and neither of them got room 521, or any other -21 room, which all have a lovely view of the brick corner of the building and NOTHING else.
The room itself was nice. The beds were VERY comfortable. The bathroom was ok, except the floor was grungy and there was soap scum and 2 hairs still left in the soap dish in the shower. That was pretty gross. We knew the woman at the front desk wouldn't care, so we didn't bother complaining.
On the topic of houskeeping, I can only imagine the Doubletree is contributing more money toward the Ghirardelli chocolate in their cookies than they are toward houskeeping. Why else would only 2 clean rooms be available at check-in time? I have to guess the houskeeping staff is also overwhelmed (and just as unfriendly as the front desk) because as we were leaving, my husband took out things out to the car and shared the elevator with 2 members of the housekeeping staff. The coversation he overhead included the line "Do Not Disturb don't mean sh*t". I was floored when he told me this, not only that they said that, but that they did it in front of hotel guests!!! Maybe, if you decided to stay here, make sure to use the dead bolt if you really don't want to be disturbed. Our recommendation is, don't stay here.
Great for the Henry Ford sites

We chose this hotel after reading reviews; it suited our mother-daughter weekend. Everything was clean--2 whirlpools, indoor pool, lobby, and room. We checked into hotel at about 3 p. after visiting Henry Ford/Ford Rouge. Navigating from HF to the Doubletree was tricky, even with maps. There's a strange piece that goes through industrial/residential area, but once we mastered the one-ways, we were set. We lucked out and stayed same weekend as a Banjo Convention...great tunes in the nice lobby. Buffet in restaurant was decent; Wendy's and Chili's on site provided other meals. Fairlane Mall about 1 mi. away was an evening out. Our limited interaction with staff was fine & positive.
I love this hotel

This is the second time I've stayed at this hotel (amazing price from Hotwire both times), and I can't tell you how pleased I am. Not only does it have everything you'd expect from a nice hotel (modern and attractive decor, comfortable bed, fabulous pillows), but the thing that really makes me love it is all the little extras. They really go out of their way to make everything as comfortable as possible. Like the quality Neutragena products in the bathroom-- including a face wash and facial moisturizer (with SPF!) that I would actually use on my face; a real rarity from a hotel. Or the nice Wolfgang Puck coffee maker that lets you make one or two (very good) cups at a time. Little things like that. Also, the staff goes out of their way to make sure you're happy. On my most recent visit, for example, they happily exchanged a six-pack of Sam Adams that had been in our car for a six-pack of ice-cold Sam Adams from the bar.
In addition to the great comfort, they also had really good security, which I appreciated. (Even though the name of the hotel is Dearborn, it's actually in Detroit, but just barely so you shouldn't let that put you off.) A keycard is required in the elevator to access the upper floors, and when someone calls for your room number they're required to supply your name as well in order to be connected.
Overall, a great place to stay; I can't wait to go back.
