ground transport to detroit airport

by janfrederick

I live in Cottam on canada My flight is booked Mexicana Air May 28 6:15 am from detroit airport. The min check in time is 90 min before flight (4:45 am). the robert q's earliest shuttle from windsor canada arrives 5:15 am. May I arrange for a 60 min chek-in time? Is there another ground service that i can use? Car rental that allows destination drop off?

They won't let you check in. I've been given 5-10 minutes leeway before, but that was in Canada, and 30 minutes is really pushing it anyway.
Budget allows cross-border rentals sometimes between US and Canada, but it looks like they don't for Windsor Airport (closest car rental to Cottam) to Detroit Metro Airport. Looks like Avis is the same way also.
Go there the day before and get a hotel by the airport that has a free, 24-hour shuttle. It'll be more expensive, but you'll make your flight. You can also use cheaper transit options if you go the day before, since you'll have more time and flexibility.

Travel Tips for Detroit

stupid talk

by dtownkitty

97.1 Free FM is an option if your woofers & tweeters need a break from Detroit radio. The hosts are usually annoying and talk mostly about their personal lives or topics such as "do you wet your toothbrush before you brush", "is it gay for a guy eats a salad with grape tomatoes", and whether or not you are "parting" your hair on the left if your wear your part on the left. (?) I am not kidding.

Its entertaining to listen and try to figure out what the heck they are doing for about 5 minutes. I think they have only two modes: dirty, and clean and stupid. And the dirty thing doesn't fly these days at 4pm.

Parker & the Man are on every week night & have the best sports talk show anywhere...Made a sports lover out of me....

Streets of Detroit

by freddie18

My brief stay in Detroit gave me better impression of the downtown streets. I have not seen a lot but I can say that the street is wide and did not see any traffic.

I thought maybe the reason why the street was quiet at that time is because it was a Sunday and not too many people on the road. It was easy and convenient to travel as the streets are wide and drivers behave on the street.

If it is convenient for you to travel on a weekend, please do. It's not a crowded place at all. You will see my photos of street in Jefferson and one was taken on the street in front of Comerica.

Motown Historical Museum

by seagoingJLW

Located in two connected buildings at 2648 West Grand Boulevard, the museum includes the original Hitsville USA building that housed Motown's original recording studio.

For information phone:
313-875-2264 The outside of the East museum building looks like it did in the 60's. See the photo.

Alienation in Architecture?

by yooperprof

Somewhere in the middle of the twentienth century, I think many architects lost the concept that buildings should be designed for people. There doesn't seem to be any sense of appropriate size or scale at the Renaissance Center. At least that's my opinion.
