Train Schedule

by meslama

What I need to see when I visit the Detroit Zoo site along with prices are;
1) What are the specific train schedule times per day. From the front and from the back.
2) Do you still offer the special engineer ride for children and at what cost.

Re: Train Schedule

by fossettes

Hi Meslama – I grew up near the Detroit zoo and loved packing a picnic, getting on my bike and heading there with my friends on a summer day when I was young!

I don't think there is an actual train schedule. The ride is about 10 minutes long. It runs continually during the day, leaving either the front station or back when the train is filled (or the line is gone). The last time I was there (about 3 years ago) they did offer the ride with the engineer. I think you get a cap and a photo too. I remember it wasn’t expensive – maybe $15.00.

Enjoy your time at the Zoo!

Travel Tips for Detroit

Detroit Skyline

by freddie18

I travelled to Detroit from Toronto by car and took us approximately five hours. When we reached the border of Windsor and Detroit, I can see the skyline right from where we were. It was a magnificient view from afar.

These skycrapers made the downtown Detroit beautiful and I can imagine how amazing will it be at night across the Detroit River. Some of the tallest and prominent buildings at the downtown are the Cadillac Place and the Renaissance Center.

Stay in Detroit and enjoy the place. Watch the ball game at Comerica and go out at night and see the buildings brightly illuminated and made reflections of the light along the waterfront. I will definitely be going back to Detroit. My stay there was very brief and have yet to see some of its beautiful places.

Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village

by seagoingJLW

Henry Ford gathered all sorts of things and buildings. Even his friend, Thomas Edison's, laboratory from Menlo Park, NJ is located here.

Buildings come from all over. the homes, stores, businesses, etc. are open for all to visit. The village is currently undergoing a restoration project and will reopen in June 2003.

Honestly, I dont particularly like Detroit.. thats why I travel so much. :) The only thing I truely miss when away from detroit is the Coney Dogs. There are a lot of Coney Islands in the Detroit area, and I eat at them often.

Border Tunnel - Detroit/Windsor

by freddie18

The Detroit-Windsor tunnel is an underwater tunnel between the cities of Windsor of Canada and Detroit of the United States. It is the point of international crossing that requires both countries checking of passports and vehicles who visits each of the two countries.

Passing thru the immigration formalities takes only few minutes so it is not much of a problem to cross the border. Just some piece of advice: It is now required by the US authorities to present the passport even if you are a citizen of Canada.

The Detroit River as seen from the Ren Cen

by yooperprof

The Renaissance Center is located right on the Detroit River downtown - and it's easy to appreciate the size and flow of this waterway as you watch the barges float past. The Detroit River links Lake St. Clair with Lake Erie, and is one of the major connecting links between Detroit and the rest of the world . . . That's the Ambassador Bridge in the background.
