When you stay at Omni Detroit River Place, you will quickly forget that you are in downtown Detroit. Situated on the banks of the Detroit River, the hotel is a retreat from the chaos of this urban jungle. To get there, you have to drive down a deserted stretch of roads past the numerous warehouses.

The beds are a perfect 10 as far as comfort is concerned. Fender's Tavern in the lower level is better-than-average watering hole, with plenty of plasma TVs tuned into local and national sporting events. There is also an indoor pool, sauna and whirlpool.

There is a daily fee for secure valet parking, which is not included in the basic room price.

Unique Quality: The Omni Detroit River Place is a relaxing place to stay. Check the hotel's Web site for special rates and packages. Usually, you can get a better price on weekends and holidays when the business crowd is away. I reserved a room over the Christmas holiday using Priceline.com for $50!!!
