The Atheneum: In the heart of Greektown    Check Rates

    • this is a beautiful hotel with a touch of Greek history added in. Modeled after Greek temples, the Atheneum indeed sits in the center of downtown Detroit's Greektown district. You will be surrounded by Greek restaurants, bakeries, shops and yes, the Greektown Casino! The rooms are large and elegant, suites having about 5 stairs leading down toward the bed area, where the upstairs holds a couch, TV and such.

    The location is excellent and the views iside are amazing. the lobby is lovely and there are plenty of banquet facilities. There is a walkway from the parking structure through the hotel leading you directly to the casino.

    • One of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed at is the Athenuem Suite Hotel. Wow! The decor is a Greek theme of gods and godesses. There is a waterfall in the restaurant which is also kind of cool. The suites are huge very nice. Last time I was there is was about $150 a night but that was before the Greektown Casino opened across the street. It could have gone up now.
    When I stayed last is was about $150 a night. That is actually pretty reasonable for downtown Detroit.

    • Joe and I stayed here last January when we were in town for a Red Wings game event. I was pleasantly impressed with the hotel. Is it ultra luxurious- no, but come on- this is Detroit. I was not expecting much. The hotel lobby has the feel of a smaller Vegas type establishment but the rooms were clean and spacious with a sunken bedroom (a few steps down into the room). And we could not beat the location. You can catch the Peoplemover across the street at the casino to go to either Cobo or Joe Louis.

    The hotel does not have its own restaurant. Instead, it is attached to the restaurant, Fishbones. Fishbones is huge- it has several large rooms each with a different feel.
