American trucking is of such large scale that the vehicles can no longer park just anywhere. These monster vehicles are a home on wheels for truckers, having sleeping berths, refrigerators, wireless computers and GSP, and often even microwave ovens. By about 3pm, the trucks begin to search for parking spots at the Truckstops, such as the Flying J in Grand Ledge. The Flying J provides not only fuel, but showers, lounge, restaurant, general store, and other services. During our stay, the weather was so comfortable that the truckers didn't idle their engines. In extremely hot or cold weather, the constant idling of engines can not only pollute the local air, but add noise to one's sleeping environment. I usually wear earplugs when I sleep.
