Amway Grand

If you don't plan to spend the $200+/night to stay here it is definitely worth walking into. The architecture, the scenery is so beautiful that it is a MUST SEE in this town. You can also go to the bars here without staying. Also worth noting the Amway has Skywalks that connect it to many of the bars in the downtown area... very useful in the winter time if you don't want to walk in the cold. Come in and stay a while... it is something to see.

Centrally situated hotel

4* hotel situated within a central location. Hotel built in 1913. There is a beauitful gold-leaf ceiling to be found in the lobby.

Great hotel in a great location...although at the luxury end of the budget...

The Amway Grand Plaza is the best place to be. Go in and start playing the piano in the lobby. This place is upscale..especially for our w. michigan standards.
A lot.

I have never needed to book a hotel here, but if you are on vacation, I would recommend staying downtown at either the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, The Marriot, or Days Inn.

Unique Quality: If you don't care to stay in the city, there are several hotels on 28th Street (near the airport), 15 minutes from downtown, or off Alpine Avenue (in Walker), about a 5 minute drive from downtown.

I highly recommend the Five-Star Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
Not sure exactly, but I've heard it's around $150 per night and up in US currency.

Unique Quality: It has an indoor pool, tennis courts, workout facilities, top-rated restaurants and is located next to the beautiful Grand River with its several lighted bridges, across from the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum.

A Beautiful Place to Stay in Grand Rapids

by TripAdvisor Member concetta2

This was a first-class business hotel. Rooms were immaculate. Staff was courteous, friendly, efficient. Food at the hotel restaurants went way beyond average hotel fare.

The original part of the hotel itself is beautiful, and the entire place is very well maintained. Meeting rooms were also great and staff was ready to tend to any technical problems that arose.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Grand Rapids for business or personal travel.

not so pleased

by TripAdvisor Member LadyPennington

My room was very small and stuffy. The air conditioning was very hard to regulate --either too cold or too warm. The room also had an odor , maybe it was from the dirty carpet. I would not recommend this hotel to the elderly who have problems with walking. It is too spread out for easy access to restaurants and meeting rooms.

Not recomemded for large groups

by TripAdvisor Member clchurch

I went there with a large group it was OK service it took awhile to get everyone in their rooms The maids service was GREAT! and the room service was excellent as well. However, It was a bit high priced. Overall I would not recomend Large groups for this Hotel. it would be a great place for a weekend away or a business trip!

Great Business Hotel - Out of place in GR

by A TripAdvisor Member

I have stayed at the AGPH 10 or more times over the past several years. A recent renovation has made the lobby, reception and valet areas even nicer than before. The hotel has several very nice shops and resteraunts and there are many more within walking distance - with the covered walkway system you can get where you need even in the worst weather.

The tower club rooms are very spacious and they have great beds.

Overall I have always found the service to be very good, except for the valet(s) who always seem to change my radio station (is that really necessary for the 1 minute you are in my car?).

In my opinion, however, the hotel thinks VERY highly of themselves and the prices have continues to increase steadily to the point where I will not stay there anymore. Parking is also expensive, and you must pay to use the fitness facility.

Overall a great place to stay if you are on an expense account and you need to be downtown. I have started to stay at the Hilton for location and price.
