Great City, lots of fun
by dreamdancer118
Grand Rapids is a pretty cold place in the winter, but in the summer its just hopping with things to do outdoors. Being born and raised in Grand Rapids I know where to have fun. One of the best things to do in the summer is go to "Blues on the mall" Its a fun blues concert in the heart of grand rapids every wed. afternoon. And its FREE! When I left for a year to move to california I miss how beautiful the city looks at night with the bridges all lit up and the river reflects the light off the bridges, it looks so romantic.
The BOB, downtown, is the most...
by capman
The BOB, downtown, is the most popular night spot in the area. It has 4 floors of restaurants, clubs, and a comedy revue. They charge cover after 9pm. There are clubs and bars all over the place downtown, but the best are located near the arena (and the BOB). I recommend The BOB, Taps, Flannigans, and J. Gardellas. Bulls Head is good, but VERY noisy. Opus is very popular with aging yuppie types. Stay away from any bars in the Amway Grand Plaza complex, and those on Division Ave. (they advertise a lot, but are dull, dull, dull). Go to Mulligans and The Intersection in Eastown for the best live music and the grunge scene. The bars and clubs in the suburbs tend to attract a redneck crowd.
The BOB is fun because there is so much to do in one building. Most are dressy-casual... khakis and a shirt.
The Outdoor habitat for wildlife
by 807Wheaton
The outdoor acreage also includes this natural wildlife habitat. Meijer Gardens is in the process of reestablishing the environment for indiginous wildlife. This can be viewed from a boardwalk that meanders nicely through large growths of trees and woods.
Michigans OTHER City

I'm 29 and have lived in GR my entire life. I travel quite a bit, and have come to think that compared to other mid-sized cities, Grand Rapids is definately one of the nicer ones. The downtown area has been rejuvenated with new businesses all over the place. There are many unique restaurants for almost any taste or style, and almost everything is withing walking distance (1-mile or less), via sidewalks or through the skywalk system. Lake Michigan, with it's beaches and numerous small resort towns is only a 30 minute drive from downtown.
