One small step for Grand Rapids. . .
About 45mins West of Grand Rapids, on the eastern shore of lake Michigan is Grand Haven - a small resort town. Somewhere in the town is a park. In the park there are a bunch of trails in the woods. Somewhere on the side of one of the trails there grows a small blue flower.
At the front of the entrance there is a sculpture of a full size bear. The garden is five acres and one of the largest gardens for children in the nation. It is open year round and is totally wheelchair accessible.
The garden focuses on gardennig, wildlife and nature found in the Great Lakes area.
There are ten themed areas; including a log cabin, a story-telling area, a Rock Quarry containing living fossils and more.
Grand Rapids was a wonderful place to grow up. There is ethnic diversity and lots of fun people and places. I moved to Florida for school, but I still return to visit family. Winter time can be beautiful in Grand Rapids, but it has its ugly days. There is nothing quite like the change of seasons and the spiritual uplifting that they bring. The Southern US has no idea what they are missing. Although it's warm and sunny here most of the time, there is something to be said for change.
