The VanAndel Museum downtown...
by CubsIn4
The VanAndel Museum downtown offers a nice introduction to the West Michigan area. It's not very big and can be seen in a few hours. If you are so inclined, you could also visit the Gerald R. Ford Museum, located less than a block away. Nearby is Ah-Nab-Awen Park where outdoor concerts are held during Celebration on the Grand in September. Grand Rapids is only about a half-hour from Lake Michigan, and I've always loved the lake. I always miss it when I'm gone.
What are you in the mood for...

What are you in the mood for tonight? The Bistro Bella-Vita downtown is an italian favorite. Or for Spanish appetizers as a meal, visit the San-Chez. Many local pubs also offer a varied menu selection. Don't forget the classy 1913 Room in the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, or Charlies Crab on the river. Dubas for fine dining near the Meijer Gardens.
The patrons of most restaurants in GR wear dressy casual attire. You will want to look good for the 1913 Room, Charlies Crab and Dubas.

"Chihuly at Meijer Gardens"
I've enjoyed seeing Dale Chihuly's works in a variety of settings, in Chicago at the Garfield Conservatory, in various museums as permanent works and even at the federal courthouse in my hometown of Hammond, IN. As we were planning our road trip to Niagara Falls, the Chihuly exhibit was a must stop on our way. The exhibit is running through October 31, 2010 and I would highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.
"Petra exhibit at Calvin College"
We headed to Grand Rapids this weekend to see the special exhibit on Petra that was making it's final stop on it's US tour. I'm not exactly sure how it ended up in a smaller town like Grand Rapids having spent 6 months in New York and 3 months in Cincinnati but I'm glad it did, the exhibit was much less crowded than seeing it in Chicago so you could leisurely view the exhibit.
The exhibit run through August 15, 2005.

Hey everyone! I recently moved from Grand Rapids to Chicago, but I still have a good attachment to Grand Rapids.
GR is a great, laid back city that has all of the attractions of a big city, without the size.
Hopefully I'll be able to get more information up about Grand Rapids soon.
