Harrisville State Park: Campground on Lake Huron

  • Our Campsite at Harrisville State Park - Michigan
    Our Campsite at Harrisville
    State Park
    by Stephen-KarenConn
We stayed here for three memorable nights within sight of Lake Huron. When the first light woke us in the mornings, we took our lawn chairs and walked barefoot through the sand a few steps out onto the beach, drank our tea, and watched the sun rise over the lake.

This is a beautiful campground in an unusually scenic setting. Sites are level and mostly shaded with electrical hookups. Even though we were in a tent, we still used the electricity for lights and a hotplate for cooking. There is also a playground and clean restrooms with hot showers. The cost of buying our tent and the campground fee together was less than we've paid for a single night at some hotels, and most hotels aren't this much fun. Besides, we still have the tent.

Port Crescent State Park: Camping at the Tip of Michigan's Thumb

  • This was a beautiful campgound in a 550 acre state park on the shore of lake Huron and Pinnebog River. The campground offers 181shaded level sites, all with electric hookups, picnic table and fire ring. There are also modern restrooms with hot showers.

Many of the campsites had outstanding views of Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron, some right on the water, and all within a very easy walk. There is a nice sandy beach area (three miles of shoreline), a playground, and over five miles of hiking trails. Campfire programs and special tours to nearby areas were also provided during summer. One could spend an entire relaxing vacation here and never leave the park. We found it to be an excellent base from which to explore more of Michigan's "thumb."

We stayed at the Mission Point...

  • We stayed at the Mission Point Resort. Room very nicely kept, maid service above average, amenities were abundant, and the personell there were very helpful.
I believe we stayed for around 120.00 for two adults and two small children, two full beds. Please not that the Mission Point has special rates after peak summer and also accepted my 'Entertainment Book' coupon...gave us the room for HALF PRICE !

You name it, they have it here. My only regret was we didn't stay an extra day to enjoy the resort.

Topinabee Pines is a very large cabin located in the northern part of Michigan's LP, about 30 miles north of Gaylord and 30 miles south of St. Ignace. Numerous lakes and natural attractions adorn the area, and though Topinabee itself is quite small, it is located centrally within upstate Michigan's primary tourist area. The cabin (or cottage) is quite large, having two bedrooms as well as a hide-a-bed sofa. The kitchen and dining room are also quite large, making for a very comfortable stay. A fire pit and BBQ complimented the already fine stay.

The cabin had the look and feel (also many of the same furnishings) of a real home. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen furnished to a degree far superior than most comparable cabins. The simple necessities of life, such as toilet paper and paper towels, were stocked in abundance and all the appliances worked. A washer and drier were a very welcome bonus, as were the pamphlets and fliers of various regional attractions. A gas station and large convenience store are located nearby.

If you don't mind having a primitive campsite, (meaning no restrooms or electricity), then you can camp in any national forest. The camping is free and the Manistree National forest covers a large area.

You can camp without having anyone camping next door or even 2 miles away!

When we canoe or Kayak on the Pine River we camp at Perterson Campgound. This campground has restrooms, but not electricity.

The location of this campground is it's #1 quality. It's located on the banks of the Pine River and is also located close to several river outtfitters. All campsites are heavily wooded, which is an asset during the hot days of summer.

This is a large, 3 bedroom cabin that goes for $450 a week and is open all year long. It is on the lake, and you get at least a glimpse of the superb nature. Its quite quiet and even though you do have neighbors, they are well screened by the trees.

It comes with a boat, a full kitchen with microwave, refrigerator etc. It has a huge porch with a tremendous view and a BBQ. Washer and dryer. Fire pit.

  • An all inclusive casino resort, with hotel, restaurant, bar, gift shops and workout/sauna room. It also has a concert theatre which features some well known artists. I saw Mindy McReady there last July 1st, 2000, and the next night '38 Special' was playing. You could spend a weekend there, and never leave the place.

After visiting Wisconsin-Green Bay we were a bit disapointed with an accomodation in Michigan... We drove all the way North to Traverse city and finaly we stayed at Bayshore resort.
the room for 4 of us costed 175$ per night!

it was a ground floor room with 2 double beds and a bathroom, but the best thing was that we could go out from our room straight to the beach! where we had our breakfast. The resort was nice with indoor pool and other facilities but more expensive compaire what we paid in Wisconsin... ok,it was good!
