Travel Tips for Kalkaska

Kalkaska, Michigan

by erin78

"My Hometown: Come visit!"

Kalkaska is a small town in northern Michigan. We are only 1/2 hour from Traverse City, which is a bigger city with all typical shopping and food places. Kalkaska has a large population living below the poverty line. I teach first grade here, and my ultimate goal is to get the kids to believe that they are smart and cool. And so far, it's worked!

We have a huge Trout Festival in April, which is the big tourist time. Fishing is a big deal up north, along with hunting and camping! :) I am nearly a vegetarian, so I don't get too excited about hunting seasons.

Our county has TONS of State land, which is pretty much just endless forest. There are lots of offroad spots where you can spot wildlife, and it is just gorgeous here in the fall. If you've never been up north, definitely check it out!
