Mackinaw City
"Mackinaw City"
Mackinaw city isn't very big but to me this is one of it's biggest perks. It's mostly quiet and the locals/seasonal workers are all very friendly and honest. The beauty is also breath taking, especially if you are an early riser and can manage to get up in time for the sunrise. There are plenty of hotel choices (most of which are set along the beach), and there are tons of shops in the down town area. Although most of the shops are closed during the winter it's still the place to be, what with the ice/snow sculpture contest, sled dog races and frozen lake to walk on or take pictures of there's always something to do year round. Also if you're are a history fan or something to that effect you will enjoy both Mackinaw's fort and reenactments of battles, as well as stepping back in time at Mackinac island where no cars are allowed.
