Don't Miss Activities/Visitor Center

This is a wonderful place for outdoors adventures. Don't miss a visit to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. You may wish to stop in at the Hiawatha National Forest/Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore visitor information center, which is located at SR 28 and CR-H58. Winter brings snowmobiling, with Munising advertising itself as the Snowmobile Capital of the Mid-west. Seeing a mother black bear and four cubs clustered close around her, all faces looking at us as we hiked a road in Grand Island. Taking our dinghy on a slow trip late afternoon to view the magnificent colors of the rocks along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. See my travelogue, Visiting Pictured Rocks by dinghy for photos of this trip.
Sunset.

After a day on the trail it is good to make camp, build your fire, take your boots off, relax and watch the sun go down. As with sunrises, you can see them anywhere, but it is really special when you are outside. The end of the day, when it is time to relax and reflect is always special.
Paradise (not the city)

A local swimming spot with mini- Pictured Rocks landscape. You can dive into about 25 feet of crystal clear water, hike around to caves (both above and below water) and enjoy a very secluded day. I'm not going to give directions, but if you ask a local nice enough, they may help you out. The hint i'll give you is that you turn on the dirt road after Foggy's in Christmas.
Au Sable Point Lighthouse

This grand old 87 ft. lighthouse, established in 1874, is still active and in excellent condition. It is reached by a 3 mile (round trip) hike from the Hurricane River Campground at the far eastern end of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The trailhead is reached by taking H-58 east for about 31 miles. The road will be dirt for the last half of the way. Hurricane River is a small remote campground on the shore of Lake Superior. There you will find a sign pointing out the lakefront trail to the lighthouse. When we were there in early August two National Park intrepreters were on hand to give us a tour.
Miners Castle

This formation of two towering rock spires is a favorite of visitors to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. There are hiking trails and a beautiful picnic area near the rock where we enjoyed a great lunch. A steep hike down from the picnic area leads to a popular beach at the base of the rock.
