Disclaimer! I am not a camper. My idea of camping is a nice hotel. But I know firsthand that D. H. Day Campground is well liked and in demand among those who do enjoy lying on cold/wet/hot/buggy/humid/dry ground. (Sorry for the editorial... I must have had trauma as a child.)
I have been to the campground with friends, locals who live 10 miles away, who consider themselves very fortunate to have secured a site. I have biked through the grounds during off season and have tried to imagine myself there near a roaring campfire. To no avail. But this is not about me...
You will find a quiet lovely place for walks along the Bay. Fabulous hikes up the dunes, the Coast Guard Lifesaving Station and Glen Haven, a restored village where D.H. Day shipped his logs to Chicago. Glen Arbor is nearby and I recommend Art's Tavern for Chicken Jalepinio Soup (on Wednesday's only)
The campground is right on Sleeping Bear Bay
