Antiquities' Wellington Inn

If I Were to Visit Traverse City...

I live here in Traverse City, about a mile from the Wellington Inn. I cannot justify the extravagence of staying in a Bed and Breakfast right down the road. Yet, I am tempted each time I walk or bike past this lovely home.
I have been inside and seen the lovely accommodations during their Christmas Tours. It is money well spent, as it is a fundraiser for local charities. Every room is decorated and each has it's own personality.

Unique Quality: It's HUGE! A large porch dwarfs you as you climb the stairs to the front door.

This was the former home of W. Cary Hull, his wife, Katherine Lola and their 5 children: Henry, Gerald, Richard, William and Jane. Mr. Hull was the son of Henry S. Hull, owner of the Oval Wood Dish Company and the largest employer in the area.

Construction on the home began in 1905 and was completed in 1908. In 1916, as lumber suppliers became depleted, the family moved to Tupper Lake, New York. The home stood vacant for 10 years before being purchased and converted into four seperately owned apartments.

In 1998 the current owner (Barb and Hank Rishel) bought the property and undertook a major renovation project. In the summer of 2003 ther home was opened as The Wellington Inn, an elegant Bed and Breakfast.
