Not Real Impressed

I used this motel while bicycle touring in the area with friends. We passed through TC several times, so had three separate stays at the motel totalling about 25 room-nights. Location was important, as we were without automobiles. The motel is ~1 mile from downtown, within walking distance. Many others are farther out. The rooms are large, with reasonably new appointments. All rooms had microwaves and fridges. Generally the property was clean and well kept, but there were enough issues that I will look elsewhere next time.
Some members of the staff were great - friendly, helpful, and polite. Others needed to get out of the service industry. The night manager almost started a fistfight when we asked to store a few suitcases in between our stays. And he was far from the only rude, unhelpful individual. The continental breakfast is well below average in selection, and is served in a dark, depressing underground room. Several times our rooms had noxious smells - once of badly burned microwave popcorn, once a non-smoking room smelled like a cigar convention. And this place has the noisiest window air conditioners I've ever heard - conversation, sleep, and TV were all impossible while they were running!
If you must....

Stayed one night. Because of a last-minute booking, we got the rip-off rate of $250.00. For the same price as a room in Paris or Rome, we got a shabby nonsmoking room that smelled like disinfectant and stale smoke, and a mostly water-based breakfast (coffee, tea, juice, plus toaster items). I also think our rental car got rear-ended in the parking lot.
Positives: the room was quiet and the air conditioning worked.
This hotel needs a major upgrade to carpeting and linens. Try the Bayshore resort instead.
Clean the heaters already!

Won again for 2 * $30/night bid on priceline and this time was disappointed with the room. Hotel management if you are listening please clean the rooms better and use a bit of air sanitizer. Pay special attention to the floor heaters. There was a ton of dirt and grime in the ones in our room. The front desk staff is great, the pool is great, it's a quiet place, but the room was just a bit dirty, which to me is the number one important thing in a hotel room. If you also changed the sheets and towels to something of even low quality (they are far below acceptable currently), you would have a superb hotel, so please, clean it up a bit, and change the towels already!
Yuckkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!

The room we were offered was a total disgrace. A dark hole with stained carpets, aged furniture, sticky bathroom and the air filled with smoke to SUCH an extent that we could not stay there longer than 5 minutes. Me and my wife had to ask for a non-smoking room, which , according to the front desk staff, ... was not available. This being during the off-season and with 7 cars in the parking lot of a hotel with 100+ rooms. We drove around the city the same night. EVERY SINGLE HOTEL WAS FILLED TO 30% CAPACITY AT THE MOST. We found a great resort down the road (only $70 a night) that saved our holiday...
There are two buildings at that Best Western. One has corridors and all, the other (which "our room" was in) is a motel-like disaster, old, shabby, and smoked. The wise management tells you right away that as hotwire clients we are not entitled to anything better than the latter. They also offer you an "upgrade" -- a room in the "better" building which still looks sad but costs an extra $50 a night. I've really never had a worse experience with either hotwire or any other hotel on the planet.
One of the front desk women was truly weird... When I started expressing my dire dissatisfaction with the room and giving her my reasons why I do not deserve the misery of the room she was giving me, she told that ... she is tired of MEN TALKING TO HER LIKE THAT... I mean... hello... I'm sorry life has been like that for you, gal... I didn't even try to offend you or anything. All I did was express my utmost dissatisfaction with the room and kept saying that the option they provided was unacceptable. At some point, she also said that if the manager was here, he would just kick me out... No need, people, I'll leave myself.
I see that the hotel management is keen on responding to negative ratings. I honestly won't be surprised if it's them who throw in a couple of positive reviews here and there for a change. I'd like to emphasize that the place in every possible respect is better suited for pigs than people. The appropriate rating for this shame of a Best Western is 0.5 stars. Yuck, YUCK!
Gross!!

I really can't believe the prices they charge for these outdated and dirty rooms. First of all I was told the room was $139 but I was charged $149. The room was worse than a $60 room. The carpet and the curtains were stained and nasty, and the furniture was something from the 50's. There was a bottle behind the nightstand from the guest before us. Really, who do they have cleaning these rooms. I would not even let my kids take a bath in the room it was sooo disgusting. We checked in at midnight and ran as fast as we could away from that place early in the morning. I am very displeased with this place especially for the price I payed. I will definitely tell everyone I know who is going to traverse city to stay as far away from the best western as they possibly can. As for myself...I will NEVER stay at another best western!
Looks worse than it is

When we pulled up to this place, my heart sank. It looks like a dump built in the 70's. However, our room was really clean, even though over all it could have used some updating. I have to admit that it did smell like Pine-sol when we first arrived. The bed was hard; I woke up several times during the night, but it was very quiet, and the curtains blocked out the light completely. The breakfast was fine. We were only there one night, so it was acceptable. Probably wouldn't choose this hotel again, just because I think there are better options.
Loved the new look and new staff!

We had stayed several years ago and finally made it back to Traverse City and the Best Western in January. The new look of the hotel was great. New managers, and less rooms. They have only one building now. All of the rooms are just a short walk to the pool and breakfast room areas. When we stayed before they had several "outside" buildings. Not now. All of the rooms have inside hallways and are all connected. The new manager was a pleasure! He said the hotel only has 50 rooms now, and they just won some huge award. Like they are the top Hotel at Best Western? The staff were really nice. They actually took the time to answer all of our questions about the area and what to do with the kids (even in the winter). What hotel do you meet both managers? And both were so friendly and went out of the way to make sure we were happy. We would recomend this hotel to anyone. If you have not been in a while like us, you need to see what they have done! Very nice!
Ants
by TripAdvisor Member blacklabel69
We booked the whirlpool suite and for the most part it was nice but the price seemed a little high. Also, had I not been in a better mood, I would have been more irate about finding ants crawling on multiple walls. After killing about 4 or 5 on three different walls I felt i had gotten rid of them. The next day at checkout I politely mentioned to the person at the desk that they should check the room over for any more. He apologized and took a whopping $10 off of my bill. I didn't espect a free night or anything but $10 almost seemed like an insult. Had I known that was going to happen I would have complained the night before and asked to be moved to another room.
We'd come back again

We stayed at the Best Western Traverse City last July in 2007.
We paid approximately $240 for a two day stay which includes our pet fees & taxes.
Looking at the building/rooms you get the impression this place has been around for some time, but it is also well maintained and updated.
We choose this place because it would accommodate our needs - two adults traveling with our senior Lab mix breed dog.
General impressions -
Our Room- Clean & well maintained. Two queen beds, mini fridge/micro/coffee pot, tea bags. Bathroom was clean and came with soaps/shampoo. The window A/C unit (remote controled) was a bit noisy and had the odd habit of responding to certain commands from the tv remote! You try to change a setting on the tv and the A/C would change it temperature setting. I ended up covering the 'eye' on the A/C so that solved this 'funny little problem.'
The beds were the worst part of our stay, you sunk into them. I slept close to the edge of the bed where there was more support. The sheets, blankets and towels were all clean though.
Just wanted to add that our room was also quiet. I thought we might have had problems ... the room was on the first floor, parking lot right outside & one wall boarded the entry corridor. But it was quiet. No extraneous sounds entered.
The staff was friendly and professional. The maintenance guy just loved our dog :)
You get the 'Free Continental Breakfast' which included coffee, orange juice, hot chocolate, toast, bagels, pastries and oatmeal. The breakfast area was nice, it included some arcade type games & a tv.
The entire property is dog friendly with just two exceptions - the (indoor) pool area, and the lawn area directly in front of the parking lot. Dogs are ok in the area to the right, or left side of that patch of grass, and there is another large grassy wooded area to the far left side of the building to walk them. There is also a nice (but small) patio area outside with three or so tables where you can sit and relax with your pooch.
There are many businesses close by, many restaurants to choose from. And a 7-11 within walking distance.
All in all we had a good time. Nothing fancy here, but a good place for us.
