Watervliet revisits its watery roots
"Watervliet, Dutch for "flood plain""
So, ya know its got water..
Id always associated Watervliet with the Watervliet Paper Mill when I was a kid. What a neat place to drive by. There was, and is, a little park across from the site to picnic at and watch the steam rising from the busy old stone and brick mill.
They buldozed the Mill.
Then as a young adult I always thought of the Elite Bar,
"a place to meet friends for a treat" yet another reason to pause when going through town.
BUT they changed hands, and well, it just wasn't the same..
Then for a long time they had a killer 4th of July festival along the creek and a cool Fleamarket in the old lumber Mill.
I know the flea market burned down, and that the 4th of July festival sort of fizzled.
So bored on a 3rd of July I thought Id try a little search of what exactly was going on in ole 'vliet..
Lo and behold, in the 2 years since I'd gone the extra 15 miles up the road from my usual July haunts, they slapped up a "Waterpark"
Of sorts..
