We have stayed here a few times before (we have family that live near the hotel) and we will never return again. We arrived later in the evening and the clerk looked like he had just rolled out of bed and grabbed whatever was on the floor to go to work. He had the worst attitude, felt like we were nothing but a bother to him. Not sure what he did, but he messed something up while checking us in and had to call someone so it took even longer to get to our room and we were really exhausted from driving. Never have been so disgusted to sleep in a hotel room, it was filthy. Our bedding smelled and felt like it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time, food on the floor, the refrigerator smelled rancid, the toilet was ringed with urine spots and the shower had hair in it! The pool smelled very strong and seemed to heavily cling to us once we got out, our hair was crunchy and my daughters swim suit changed color in spots. Never used the slide during our last stay due to it being closed for whatever reason the entire night, never saw anyone to ask if it was available and the last thing I wanted to do is talk to the bum working at the desk. That is the only good thing about the hotel, is that slide. We stopped to grab some coffee to warm up( it was freezing and very drafty everywhere you went) and that coffee had to of been sitting there for hours, cold and NASTY! Beware, do not drink the coffee! Early the next morning we checked out the "breakfast buffet" to find stale pastries and expired yogurt- YUM. They do have a waffle maker there, but we didn't want to wait for the family ahead of us with a flock of kids to finish. So we skipped that catastrophe and decided to just check out and would grab something to eat down the road. The lady who checked us out seemed to of used the same technique as the man who checked us in, grab whatever is on the floor for an outfit and walk out the door. I don't think she even bothered to run a brush through her hair. She seemed to be in a very poor mood, and again I just felt like we were an inconvenience. Our stay over this last summer was pleasant, but this time around it was anything but. All in all, I'm sure any of the other hotels in the area would have made a better choice- makes more sense now why we were one of maybe 4 cars in the parking lot.
We spent a night here on a family vacation. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. We paid $155 in August 2010. More expensive than most places in the UP. Breakfast was good. Waffles, yogurt, muffins, toast, cereal and mini doughnuts. something for everybody.
Unique Quality: I saw reviews mentioning an attendant for the water slide. There was none when we were there. The kids were a little disappointed that the pool was only 3.5 feet at the deepest.
