More about Crowne Plaza Hotel Minneapolis - Airport West Bloomington
Nice Motel, Terrible Customer Service
This was a nice motel, but we thought they had terrible customer service. We used a Roomsaver coupon, which was approved upon check-in. However, the front desk called us at 10:20PM on the 2nd night we were there, to inform us that they would not allow us to use the coupon & we would need to pay full price! I think it was very inappropriate for them to call at this time of night. We were already in bed & they woke up our baby! After much arguing with 4 different people, they did let us use the coupon, but they were very rude. We also thought their housekeeping could have been better. We noticed a pizza left outside someone's door for the whole 2 days we were there...
A Dump, Plain and Simple
I am stunned at the positive reviews this property has been getting. Clearly, these people must not travel much or have very low expectations in accommodations. I am a resident of Minneapolis and recently put up some out of town family members at this hotel. I read the reviews and thought I'd take a risk having never visited the property. I gambled...and lost. I will say that the rooms were clean, but the common areas were not (lots of left over room service sitting in the hallways - yuck!). The property recently went through extensive renovations...clearly they should have saved the money, knocked down the building and started over. They tried to rennovate, but the age of this hotel clearly shows. Was concerned about the elevators as they made terrible labored noises while operating...to the point where my 8 year old Nephew was afraid to ride in them. Ammenities are not well stocked - went to THREE vending machines in search of bottled water: 2 were empty and 1 was not working. Went to front desk to complain and, on a positve note, they sent me to the bar/lounge to get water and at no charge. But, then had to argue with the bartender that it should be "on the house" per the front desk manager (she was going to charge me $2.15 per 10 ounce bottle!). I should have just run over to the gas station next door to the hotel and saved myself the frustration. In fact, the best part of this hotel was when we were not in it! Wish I could have written a better review.
Pleasant Hotel and Staff
Several members of my family and I stayed at the Crowne Plaza in June and found the hotel and staff to be pleasant and accomodating. As for amenities, we used the airport shuttle, lounge, internet room and restaurant for breakfast -- all were completely satisfactory. The bed and linens were extremely comfortable. I asked for a quiet room and was placed in "The Quiet Zone". Such a great night's sleep; I wish all hotels had this kind of set up! No, there isn't a grand lobby, ballroom or boutique, but what I wanted was a well-run, clean and comfortable place in which to rest after my daily activities. That's what I got!
Nice pool area
I liked this property. I found the rooms to be clean and well kept. The elevator did have quite a whining sound that carried to our room. I enjoyed the pool, hot tub and sauna. I thought breakfast buffet at the restaurant was fine too.
Comfortable room but little else
My son and I stayed here for 5 days. I have no complaints about the room - quiet, comfortable beds, big room. The restaurant is minimal with only a sparse unappetizing buffet for 9.95. We went to Perkins up the road instead and ate a huge delicious FRESH breakfast for 6.95. The other complaint is that the web site should tell you that the 494 exit to the hotel is now closed. That was a real headache. Beds are just as comfortable as promised and linens were very nice and always clean.
I liked this hotel. It was clean, newly renovated in 2004, cozy, romantic and a good price for a quality room. I would highly recomend this hotel to others but with that said there were some problems. 1. You could see dirt on the bottom of the pool. 2. The air conditioning was very loud and hindered my sleep and it was very difficult to get the temp of my room to where I wanted it. It was either too cold or too warm. 3. The hallways on the floors above the lobby are very low. I could touch the ceiling with an outstretch of my hand and with my feet flat ont he floor. I'm 5'7". 4. The bathrooms are small. Plenty of good things, the hotel was clean, the bathroom sink is beautiful, the bed is comfy, the decor is cozy. Very nice hotel for a good price.
Great Service & Nice, New Hotel
I booked this newly renovated hotel for my husband's birthday. We found the staff very accomadating, including special, last-minute requests, the room tasteful with modern decor, and a spacious pool and spa area. Our room was very clean and quiet with nice amenities. The restaurant's menu is small, but has a good selection. The hotel is located in western Bloomington, close to downtown Minneapolis as well as many metro attractions. We will definately stay here again, as much for the rooms as the service.
"no bellmen, no concierge, no customer service"
I chose this hotel because in the description on the hotel website it stated: bellmen, concierge service...Since I was traveling with my 83 year old mother I knew we would need these services upon arrival and departure. Upon check in, I was told by the desk clerk that this hotel does not have bellmen. I was instructed to drive to the back of the hotel and enter through door number 3. I drove around to the rear of the hotel and upon viewing door number 3 realized that this would not be a safe place for two women to unload their luggage or park for the night. I drove back to the front entrance and went into the lobby and got a large luggage cart and brought it out to the drive thru and unloaded our luggage onto the cart. I then got my mother out of the car and had follow as I pushed the cart through the doors into the main lobby. I asked the front desk where the elevator was and they pointed up a hallway. We proceeded to the elevator pushing the cumbersum cart down the hallway. After we finally maneuvered the cart into the elevator a maid got in with us. We pushed the 3rd floor and she pushed a higher floor. When the elevator stopped on the 3rd floor, the maid quickly pushed some buttons and the doors opened and then closed before anyone could get out. She giggled and then said "sorry...I am in a hurry"! We were stunned but when she got off on her floor we redirected the elevator back down to the 3rd floor. We got off the elevator and pushed the cart down the entire floor until we realized that there was no room number matching the room we were assigned. So...we made our way back to the elevator, back to the main lobby and to the front desk that about 4 or more men were standing behind. I asked how we are supposed to get to our room number and they then said that we took the wrong elevator. They pointed to some swinging doors (a double set that were not automatic) and said that we needed to take the elevator that was on the other side of those glass doors by the swimming pool. They all watched as I proceeded to push the cart across the lobby and my 83 year old mother tried to hold the doors open so I could get the cart through. Then we finally found the second elevator and got into it with the cart and our luggage. We arrived on the 3rd floor at our room and upon inspection discovered that the "room with a view of the city" that we requested only had a view of the gravel roof and large silver metal vents for the heating and cooling system. I called the front desk and they sent a person to move us to a room on the 5th floor that did have a view. There was no phone directory in the room and no list of restaurants in the hotel directory in the room. I went down to the lobby to talk to the concierge to find out about a good local restaurant and could not find a concierge desk. I approached the front desk and asked where the concierge desk was and they stated that they do not have one. I asked if they could recommend a good restaurant that was close and the person working behind the desk printed a computer readout that listed about 50 restaurants with no addresses only phone numbers! The next morning when I went down to use the sauna and go for a swim, I was greeted with a "out of order sign" on the sauna. In the lobby lounge, I noticed a coffee pot set up on the bar with what appeared to be complimentary coffee...so...I thought I would get a cup to bring back to my mother in the room. There was a employee standing close to the coffee pot so to be polite I asked "is this coffee complimentary for guests"...the employee responded "yeah, unless you want to pay for it". Needless to say, I was shocked and disappointed at the customer service at this hotel. Upon check out, I asked to speak to the General Manager - Jim Saccoman presented himself. I told Mr. Saccoman about our experience and he apologized and told me that they do not have bellmen because they cater to the business class traveler and they do not like bellmen or use concierge services. He stated that he would give me a reduction on my room charge for that night and the second night on our return trip five days later. He stated that when we checked in on the night of 8-9-05 we would get their VIP treatment. We continued our trip in Minnesota and on the afternoon of 8-9-05 checked back into the Crowne Plaza for our last night before flying home. The person who checked us in asked if we would like help with our bags and brought them to our room for us...he complained of a migraine headache the entire time he was in the elevator and pushing the luggage cart. Upon check in, we noted that there were 2 dirty trays with dishes and old beer bottles sitting in the hall outside our room...they were still there in the morning at check out. There was no local phone directory in this room either...my bet is there are none to found in the hotel. I am not sure what the VIP service consists of but the only difference between the first night and the second was that our luggage was brought to our room upon arrival. I brought our luggage down at checkout while my mother tried to sit in the crazy chairs they have in the lobby without any success...very modern low to the ground and shoved up to a coffee table making it virtually impossible for a limber person to sit in much less a 83 year old lady with a bad hip! At checkout, I revceived the receipt and discovered that no adjustment had been made to my charges as promised by the General Manager on the morning of 8-4-05. When I questioned the front desk clerk about it, she stated that the GM was not on the property and that she did not know how to make an adustment to our bill. This was the first time that I have ever stayed at a Crowne Plaza Hotel. For some reason I had the impression that they are a "better hotel". Their description of this hotel implies this since they state that they have bellmen and concierge service...don't be fooled...they do not! I complained to the corporate site and to date have not received any reply. I emailed the GM regarding the false promise of a price adjustment and have only received a message on my answering machine four days ago asking for me to call him...a long distance call for me. After reviewing this site and other comments about this hotel I see that I am not the only one with customer service issues. The room was adequate but not as nice as I had expected for the price. The hotel description leads you to believe that the hotel was built in 2004...it was remodeled in 2004...the fixtures are dated and it is obvious this is an older property that was given a face lift...this could be overlooked if only they improved on their customer service.
Nice Hotel, A Lot of Attention to Details
Stayed at this Crowne Plaza one night on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised. The exterior is very plain, but the interior is really nice. I was treated very well by hotel staff. My room was large, clean and quiet. The bed was very cumfortable. Had dinner in the bar and breakfast in the restaurant the next morning. The food was better than average, but more importantly the wait staff was great. I travel quite a bit for business and was pleasantly surprised at how helpful and attentive everyone is at this hotel.
